Been drinking coffee since the age of 10 and noticed no oddities caused by it.

I like coffee but quit drinking it when it started affecting my heartbeat. I had to quit drinking iced tea, too.

I like coffee. But it gives me the squits. So when I do drink it it's in very light moderation.

I don't tend to get the buzz off it though.

I wondered if the subject of coffee would come up. To say as kraftiekortie did, I never developed a taste for coffee is putting it mildly. I have never drunk coffee despite four years at university, six in the military, and many years working since then.

I remember at least one situation where I had a holiday dinner at someone's house and afterward, with no one asking "Who wants coffee?" or anything, a cup of coffee landed in front of me. I couldn't even try it as just the smell was putting me off. I was so embarrassed but I had to decline it somehow.

I did drink a lot of black tea, especially during those university/military years when I had to be awake for something. But I am now off all caffeine since I have had to iron out some sleeping difficulties.

I also wanted to say that I find the smell of coffee repulsive enough that its not going past these lips. Especially the brewed kind, which unfortunately lingers about the kitchen long after the brewing is over. The smell alone was enough to get me out of bed and off to work.

Apparently one of my ASD features is a super sensitivity to the smell of brewed coffee.

I've wondered as well. Coffee (or any form of caffeine) neither keeps me awake nor makes me hyper; in fact, I drink it when I'm anxious because it calms me down. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day, including at least one in the evening.

Today it took me 2 cups of coffee to wake up before 1 PM, I wonder if something wrong with me. I’m trying to find a doctor.

I drink a lot of coffee. It helps to energise me.

I also went a year or two drinking yerba mate. For some reason coffee makes me feel like I'm late for something all day. Rush rush rush.
Don't know what it is about it.
At the moment I'm drinking coffee just because it's easy.

I suppose it's worth noting that I worked for room and board at a coffee shop for a while, where I was the worst barista in the world.

Hahaha, is that why I'm always early for stuff and worried I won't be on time for something. Just today I had an appointment and had to leave a social event earlier than I needed to in order to make it. You might be onto something. Coffee makes autistics feel pressed for time.

Caffeine is my friend.

I tried Yerba mate once, resulting in a surreal out-of-body experience. 8O

Coffee relaxes me and helps me focus, but can't have too many in a day or my heart does race.

Same here. I had a heart attack in 2010 when I was 34 years old so too many coffees in a day can be pretty dangerous for me.

But Tim Hortons coffee in Canada is sooooooo good! Hence the dilemma I face everyday.

Xatrix, that's not good! I can have two a day, I only care for more than that. Was your heart attack due to heart disease? Pretty scary either way.

My heart attack was due to undiagnosed high functioning Autism (Asperger's Syndrome) and the incredibles stresses that came with it. I'm 42 now and I was only diagnosed 3 months ago. I was over stressed all the time since childhood primarily because I thought I was going crazy. I've got things under control right now but I'm still quite overstressed and my therapist currently lists my anxiety status as "inconceivable."

I'm still learning a great deal about this neuro-developmental condition known as Autism and I'm a work in progress.

The smell of coffee makes me nauseous and I get anxiety when I drink it. I can drink lots of tea and even preworkout drinks that have a lot of caffeine without getting anxious. I've always wondered whether it was psychosomatic or something in the coffee that I respond negatively too.
