I can't handle it at all, I still think about stuff that happened in my childhood and go into frantic face rubbing or slapping myself. One of the very worst aspects of my condition.

I do the same. I usually laugh at myself at that moment and say, "Wow! I can't believe I just... how embarrassing.. ha". I figure just say it, own it, and move on. Hopefully, I will not make the same mistake again. If it is serious, I apologize I feel it inconveniences or upsets anyone.

I don't deal with embarrassment very well, I spend much time dwelling on it.

I agree it's horrible and you need to be disciplined with yourself. One easy get out (if you live in the UK at least) is to say: "I'll get me coat".

I have a hard time knowing what is considered ‘embarrassing’ to others. If i ever feel like ive said something dumb or i trip and fall or something... i just dont react and move on. Same as if someone startles me... no reaction.

And yes some people think im either a bit slow on the uptake or a robot.

I either...

A) roll with the punches and make it a joke, especially if it's due to clumsiness. For instance, if I were to trip over myself whilst walking and people saw and started to laugh, then chances are I'd reply "I meant to do that, obviously" and with a little hair flick whilst gaining my composure, I would continue walking.

I realise that nobody is going to buy that lie, but sometimes when I do this people reply saying that they can relate, and this can lead to conversation...or at the very least it gives both you and those who saw you something to laugh about. :D

Other times I'll end my moment of clumsiness with a dramatic gesture, as if I were doing interpretive dance, mainly taking the mickey out of myself.

B) Admit to my mistake, and joke about it with my friends later.

Or

C) Say "And that's what I would say, if I completely misunderstood this situation, however I did not, and was merely joking" then try to save the situation.

Afterwards, I usually think about it for several years even though everyone else has moved on. :x

If it's something small, I just laugh, and get on with things.

If it's something big, I feel terrible, and have trouble forgiving myself for my lack of social instincts.

Autistic people have the capacity to be embarrassed? That can’t be because that would mean they are aware of the feelings of others. (Sarcasm)

I've transcended embarrassment.

A major exception to this would be the fact that I am still quite embarrassed by sexuality, though not nearly as much as I was when I was a teenager.
