The lack of social filters and repetitive behaviors sure are there.

On the other hand, he got elected by identifying needs and wants of a group of people and did and still does know how to talk to them. Most of the experts are still befuddled about how he does it.

There is no way Trump has ASD. He's too charismatic to come off as someone who has ASD.

I would say there's very little chance that Trump is autistic.

He is very similar to some as*holes I've known in my life. They are usually business people who are only about making money, and believe that everybody other than those in their "inner circle" are just "stupid sheeple." (though they usually don't use the word "sheeple."

They point out the masses, say, on a line to take a bus, and think they are above those "masses." THEY (the people in the "inner circle") don't have to wait on line to get on a bus! Only those schmucks do!

I do not believe he is on the spectrum. If he qualifies for a diagnosis of anything it would probably be narcissistic personality disorder or sociopathy because he can be very charming.

He does have autistic traits he speaks his mind and puts his foot in it , though I am sure there are other disorders with these unsavoury traits that are unrelated to autism . He does have some sort egoism disorder , what sort of loser boasts about there iq ?

He's actually changed a lot since his younger days. He used to be a lot more eloquent.

Here is one theory as to what happened to him.

We're all formed by our life experiences. While his father was not a billionaire, he was wealthy, and what was functional for him was probably not something you or I could get away with. Narcissists can be charming (at least for awhile) and his history of lawsuits doesn't really indicate someone who gets along well with others on a long term basis. He is certainly ignorant in a lot of areas, and may have learning disabilities and cognitive processing difficulties, but he is brilliant when it comes to defending himself-you may as well be up against the Wolverine. I'm guessing that the firing by Twitter is consciously disrespectful. Textbook ASPD.

Well, someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). As per DSM-5:

Quote:
A. Significant impairments in personality functioning manifest by:

1. Impairments in self functioning (a or b):

a. Identity: Excessive reference to others for self-definition and self-esteem regulation; exaggerated self-appraisal may be inflated or deflated, or vacillate between extremes; emotional regulation mirrors fluctuations in self-esteem.

b. Self-direction: Goal-setting is based on gaining approval from others; personal standards are unreasonably high in order to see oneself as exceptional, or too low based on a senseof entitlement; often unaware of own motivations.

AND

2. Impairments in interpersonal functioning(a or b):

a. Empathy: Impaired ability to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others; excessively attuned to
reactions of others, but only if perceived as relevant to self; over-or underestimate of own effect on others.

b. Intimacy: Relationships largely superficial and exist to serve self-esteem regulation; mutuality constrained by little
genuine interest in others‟ experiences and predominance ofa need for personal gain

B. Pathological personality traits in the following domain:

1. Antagonism, characterized by:

a. Grandiosity: Feelings of entitlement, either overt or covert; self-centeredness; firmly holding to the belief that one is better than others; condescending toward others.

b. Attention seeking: Excessive attempts to attract and be the focus of the attention of others; admiration seeking.

C. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are relatively
stable across time and consistent across situations.

D. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are not better understood as normative for the individual‟s developmental stage or socio-cultural environment.

E. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are not solely due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., severe head trauma)

The thing about discussing about what diagnosis someone has, before you do so, make sure you have read the diagnostic criteria. Unless trump was bashed on the head and given head trauma by someone he owe money to (which is not unlikely because of the person he is), this is what he is and has always been. Trump is NOT Autistic in any way.

Psychopaths and Narcissists are very good at giving a toned down version of themselves as normal people. Those who work around them though, see their real personality really quickly.

I'd say NPD, but at this point - it's just a discussion of semantics.

Regardless, he is clearly on the antisocial spectrum, and some people decided it would be a good idea to give him access to nuclear weapons.

Always full of wonderful insight, I wonder how he would score on a 5 factor personality test? He make lack the necessary self knowledge to answer the test honestly and accurately. But definitely an antisocial and narcissistic personality.

I don't think the social ineptitude he's displayed is the same thing as autistic social impairment. When we make genuine social blunders, they usually blow up in our faces. But nothing has blown up in his face. He's encumbent and he knows he can get away with saying offensive things. I thought he was taking his chances when he tried to "comfort" widows of dead soldiers, given the huge reverence Americans have for their troops, but no, he's still there. My jaw dropped when somebody called him charismatic, but charisma is in the eye of the charismatised, so although he does and says things that I'd have thought would have wrecked his career by now, he's still there, so there must be a lot of people out there who like him. Of course we'll be shut of him one day, but even Nixon did pretty well after being removed from the top of the tree. I'll wager that Trump will never be exposed to the hardships that his victims have to endure. There might be a bit of egg on his face if he's removed, but he won't be seriously punished.

Wealthy people don't need to be so careful about showing qualities such as respect because there's not a lot we can do about it, being out-gunned and out-manoevred.

Generally, politicians aren't autistic. Politics requires skills most people with ASD's would find extremely uncomfortable.

Trump is just misinformed on lots of things.

Reagan was also misinformed on lots of things. But at least he KNEW it.

Well, Trump is not really a politician. Loads of commentators have observed that he never actually expected to win the White House, but was just looking for attention and maybe to boost his reality TV stature. He IS a showman, and many of his actions are designed to get the news cycle spinning and spinning about his latest tweet or dumbass maneuver. He's the exemplar of the slogan "there's no such thing as bad publicity."

I wasn't expecting this thread to get as much play as it did. Mostly I was musing to myself, what kind of schmuck fires people by tweet? Rolling a hypothesis around in my mind... remembering that he (maybe) has an autistic child.

Not to start a whole 'nuther topic, but I do think he might have some sort of attention deficit or learning disorder. He can't do long-range planning, and he apparently reads exceedingly little.

I would say he could have some sort of reading disorder--like dyslexia.

He's also a person who values the "code of the streets" more than the "code of intellect." This could be because he had trouble academically throughout his school career. I've known many people like this.

I think a person needs a certain degree of humility to read (a form of listening), so I don't think not reading is necessarily a sign of disability. If you think you already know it all, why bother to read?
