But those people you mentioned aren’t lying or stealing. At the most, they’re goofing off.

Would you like it if some coworker ratted on you about a meltdown?

Buses are on-time, usually, in the UK. As long as these folks do their routes properly, who are you to report their break activities to the boss?

Yes. Bea was asking a good question.

But to answer the question posed in the title of the thread.

Its not an "autism thing" per se to "snitch" ,or "to grass".

A NT might do it, but NT who does that might be doing so for some conniving reason. Reasons very different from why you do it.

Your reasons for doing the snitching are indeed very autistic in motivation. The opposite of conniving. you're overly honest, overly by the book of rules, overly straightforward about right and wrong. All very autistic traits. Not necessarily bad. But also there is a certain lack of empathy (putting yourself in others shoes). You could find yourself in others shoes if you were late to work one day. You might have to fib to the boss about why your were late. You wouldn't want coworkers to jump in and say "there was no traffic jam on route fifty on the way here. So I don't know what hes talking about". You gotta have a little give and take to get along with others.

Usually, people who are rats are "in good" with the boss. They get special favors because of it, to the exclusion of the other workers.

In blue-collar places, people who snitch and do stuff like that are often victims of violence.

I've been threatened because it was THOUGHT that I was a snitch. I'm a stickler for the rules---but I don't rat on other people---ever.

I don't sense that Brit bus drivers have much control over their tempers. I've had dealings with them; they are very short with me.

I don't grass on people at work. I remember at my previous job at the nursing home I sometimes caught people sitting in the bedrooms playing with their phones, but I'd never grass them up.
But we did have a coworker who would grass people up like the OP. I don't think she was on the autism spectrum but she did have some sort of developmental learning disability and she didn't always get whether it was appropriate to tell on people or not.

I'll have to look up the origins of "grass" in the sense of "snitch."
