You're equating ASD with cancer?

Both are potentially life threatening so yes.

I suspect there are quite a few people who wouldn't say a thing unless they're a doctor.

Please elaborate on this! This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, at the moment.

Being an NT is also life threatening, depending on the choices you make. So, would you also put the state of being neurotypical on the same level as cancer?

Autistic people are more likely to commit suicide. I personally am disabled due to a suicide attempt, had I known about my autism I could of gotten the correct kind of help and maybe my parents would not have bullied me.

Hey, don't let me or my words stop you! Do you want to tell someone in a fragile state of mind that she may be autistic? Do you think she'll fall all over you and smother you with gratitude for opening her eyes in a flash of enlightenment? Be prepared for her to tell you to go away and MYOB.
Autism isn't a bad thing or anything, and it isn't a mental illness, it's a neurodevelopmental disorder...
Sure, you know that, I know that, and most other people eventually come to know that. Unfortunately, not everyone welcomes even an official diagnosis, much less an ersatz, ad-hoc, and amateurish 'diagnosis' like the OP is proposing.

Just because you had a good time of it does NOT mean that the OP's 'girlfriend' would have the same experience.

Thank you for the clarification.
I am, of course, very sorry to hear that. I appreciate your honesty, though.

I am sorry you did not find out earlier.

Depression is a common comorbid of autism. Is autistic depression caused by autism ie it is an autistic trait or is autistic depression caused by frustration with lack of certain skills, not fitting in, being bullied, excluded etc? I think autism is not the direct cause of Autistic depression and the associated suicides.
