I think I'm a sarcastic person. I get sarcasm most of the time in others when they over-emphasize or use a "sarcastic tone" which in my mind is a condition of using sarcasm.
"How do you like the heat?"
"Oh, yeah, I reaaaaaalllly like being hot! I wish it was THIS hot and humid eeeeeevvvveerrryy day of the year!" (maybe followed by an eye roll).
I get that kind of sarcasm. My irritation comes in when people don't over emphasize or use a sarcastic tone but say they're being sarcastic. In the above example, without sarcastic tone, I would believe that the person liked being hot. Why would I think otherwise? Say what you mean and mean what you say!
I've lost count through the years on how many times in conversation after a: "Really?" from me, the person will say: "I was being sarcastic." I've also lost count in conversation where someone will say to me: "That was a joke."
