I'd never more apt and willing in comment if I only knew of that many bugs. We see a lot of moths, which are fine and don't bother me. We also get a lot of spiders, but really just small ones.

Though there was one time I saw a white butterfly with a sort of gold trim. It looked like it was crafted out of fine metals. It's a shame I never got a picture. I really like butterflies, so by extension I have no problem with caterpillars either.

I usually am more attracted to bugs with a wide range of colours. Anything else, I just find kind of dull. Inoffensive but not noteworthy.

In the OP is a picture of a cute moth, one of my favourite little creatures.

I also love butterflies, bees, crane flies, bluebottles, dragonflies, snails and ants.

Personally I feel all bugs and insects should have the right to live. I try not to kill bugs. I know wasps and hornets are harmful pests but I still don't like seeing them be killed. I rather just follow tips on how to deter them from coming near you without anyone being harmed.

The only bug I'm irrationally afraid of is spiders. But even then I hate killing them, although I wish they'd die out. They don't just catch flies in their webs but also lovely moths and crane flies. Spiders are predators. One time I saw a small spider trying to catch a large moth, but I saved the moth.

Helicoverpa zea

I am an entomologist by profession, so yes, I like bugs. It would be sad if I didn't.

Makes sense~~ Moths can be complicated though. If you ever want a really good id, it helps to provide people you're asking with some collection data, especially collection location. Then it's easier to check local species lists for possible look-alikes.

For those of you living in North America, a really good online visual resource for insect IDs is bugguide.net. You can browse already ID'd insect galleries and also you can submit your photos for experts to ID. I usually only do the ant section, but there you go.

In the spirit of this thread I'm going to post some videos of cool bugs I encounter while working:

I'm fine with most bugs, but cockroaches really freak me out.
I'm not even sure why. They're just... ugh

Every single living thing is detrimental to the ecosystem. Including ticks. I won't kill any living creature without proper cause now, including flies.

I want to study to become an entomologist, so that I can learn more about insect behaviours and their importance in our world and to help prevent any species becoming a victim of extinction. So much is misunderstood about insects and there aren't enough scientists out there to help contribute to the learning that is vital for their survival.
