You can't wish for your child to have autism. That's a bit like somebody with a genetic physical deformity saying "oh I hope my baby has a physical deformity too". Most parents want their child to be 'normal'.
When your child has a neurological difference such as autism, they are more at risk of social isolation and bullying, and you can't always control that especially when the child gets to high school. Yes I know NT kids can be bullied too, but the risk is higher if the child has an affected social performance because being socially isolated doesn't help either. I just want a child that reaches all his or her milestones on time, doesn't have delays in mixing with other children and doesn't need support at school or anything, no social/intellectual differences, no retardation, nothing that requires a diagnosis or a label. Just a normal child. And having a normal child doesn't mean they will get into drugs as a teenager, just like having an autistic doesn't mean they won't get into drugs. No matter how supportive the parents of an autistic child are, that child could still suffer from depression and low self-esteem from years of bullying from their peers and they could turn to drugs to deal with it or as desperation to fit in.
