i never really cared about birthdays much except I like getting cake, ice-cream & presents. I never really had a party that wasn't just my extended family(aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents). Those are also the only bDay parties I went to. About the only thing about my bDay I liked as as adult was getting cake. Now that I moved out of my parents, I get money from my parents which is great & my girlfriend usually takes me out to eat & she bakes me a cake at some point(it tends to get put off cuz of things going on & then we forget for a while).

If you have people in your life who make you birthday cake, you should make sure that they get one too. The only time I tried to organize a party for my ex, I forgot many basics, like candles.

Yeah but I was born 21 years too late.

Technically I was born 34 years too late cos I'd have liked to have understood it.

My birthday is also towel day :)

On my birthday I get presents and a party tea and to watch a movie of my choosing.

Routine goes to pot though.

Today is my birthday. I enjoy it. I have very little social contact with people, so the few who extend birthday wishes to me are much appreciated. It just feels like a special day for me.

My birthdays don't affect me much except for the fact that I don't like any changes in my routines.

I don't like it much. I'm bitter about birthdays. Maybe if other people put in the work to celebrate I'd enjoy it, but I'm always the one responsible for organizing everyone's birthday in the family. Sometimes I have to buy presents for myself, too. It's too much of a duty to satisfy other people's expectations. Plus I had to talk to people on the phone that day. They usually call right before I cut the cake. You can't ignore people's birthday wishes, but I'd be happier if they didn't call. When I was growing up we didn't do birthdays. It's all these adopted Western traditions. Nobody in the family actually likes cakes. We keep buying them year after year. Everybody scrape off all the icing, and eat only the inside, then they leave half behind. Last month we even celebrated my dad's birthday after he's already dead. It's so stupid but I didn't want to say it. My mom would explode.

If your mom explodes over trifles, maybe you should let her wear out her detonator more often. I'm born western, and I can't remember the last time I was offered iced cake. On my birthday I eat what I like, and turn off the 'phone if I wish. If we are not careful, we can wind up spending all our time doing things that nobody wants done, just because it has happened before. One young husband asked his bride why she made a certain move when cooking. She said she'd learned it from her mother. Her mother said she'd learned it from her mother. The grandmother said she used to do it because her cook pot was too small.

I love my birthday but there are a few flaws.

First flaw: I am a twin so my birthday is less of a celebration of my birth day and more of a celebration of us being twins. Do not get me wrong; being a twin is a unique relationship, I love it, and I am happy to celebrate it with my twin. But I would also love another day to celebrate the things that make me unique, and another to celebrate the things that make her unique.

So I chose the anniversary of my diagnosis (something that makes me unique because I identify as Autistic while she identifies as Deaf) to celebrate my birthday and the things I love about my autism (on that day, I embrace my special interests, my enjoyable stims, and not masking). My twin chose another day for us to celebrate her birthday and everything she enjoys.

Second flaw: We were born on February 1st, so every year, the weather is almost always bad. My mom even admitted that, because of the bad weather every year, she never planned any parties for our birthday.

It makes me glad that my chosen birthday is 6 months later on July 31st and has vastly different weather.

I like my birthday, because birthdays are a celebration of LiFE.

It's my birthday tomorrow. I'm posting today as I'll be busy tomorrow morning.
I'll be having a mooch around Leeds (nearest city) and having an Italian meal. Not getting any presents... nothing I want.
It's a bit like a normal day, but just a bit special. Don't have expectations that are too high... and a pleasant birthday will follow.
On my 16th birthday I wasn't really expected to reach my 17th... so 63rd birthday is fine by me.

I do not really care. I don't really get the point of birthdays

Finding a good gift is sometimes a nightmerish thing, I don't want to put pressure or obligation on anyone. Plus, I can't fake being happy when receiving gifts that are neither related to my interests nor practical stuff, or too expensive (people around me are aware of that). So I don't celebrate it.
Though I have very clever people around who spoil me with simple but thoughtful gifts when they find something I will really enjoy. I don't like surprises and unplanned things in general, but this still makes me incredibly happy. Even more when I struggle with my health. I do that for them too :)
