I have two close friends. We have been friends since college and I am lucky to have them currently as housemates. Other than that, I really struggle to make new friends. I really want to meet new people, but all of my first-time new friend interactions seem to go really poorly and don't recover.

Luckily my two roommates are social butterflies and so I leech off of their superpower in order to attend social events and kind of have acquaintances (although I secretly hate social events).

Yeah ...

I voted for "a few close friends". But in reality I don't have any friends. I think it would be nice to have someone to talk to sometimes, but I don't know if I would be able to handle all the stuff you have to think of and do to maintain a friendship. My experience with others is that they expect so much of me, and I can never live up to their expectation. I'm not good at maintaining relationships. But hey, I have my dog! :D

To everyone else, thanks for the replies. I can't reply to all at once so I'll say it here.

And to your reply, I can relate to this a lot. However, somehow when I was younger this wasn't such a problem. We can all probably go back to when we were 10-11 or so and just formed friendships without caring for social status, how normal or weird someone was, money, success, how "smooth" someone is at talking, etc. It's almost as if humans become more shallow and stupid with age lol

They expect too much from me as well. It's like people will gradually enter our boundaries until they've just violated them completely.
