These posts sound so familiar to me I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I want to kiss and bless you all.

I've never heard of anyone before who had these types of problems; things I had in my hand 10 seconds ago are now GONE! I have places for everything and I am conscientious about putting things back and they still disappear. My purse is a backpack that NEVER goes off my back, but I still managed to leave it in a client's home yesterday. There are piles of junk all over and I don't even see it, especially since I just went through 2 months of not putting things away due to lack of mobility. (Slowly regaining some household organization.) I am obsessive about paying bills - and still one or two will slip through - luckily not often  .

And let me tell you about my socks. I have been wearing only one sock (per day) now for months due to the other foot being in a cast. During that time, half my socks have gone AWOL. I have more than a dozen socks with no mates.

My executive functioning has always been poor but I managed to invent some routines to make it better.
If I remove anything from myself, I put it in very special places. If I'm not at home, I put everything into my backpack so I don't forget to take it with me. My keys are on one big ring, always in upper right pocket of my trousers. My phone is in the lower right pocket. Earplugs and lip balm in upper left pocket.
But I do lose pens because my family borrow them all the time and leave them outside my special places :(

Yes! After I locked myself out twice in a row right after I moved out of my parents' house, I started making very strict rules for myself about where I put important things, both at home and when I'm out. That has helped a lot, since I'm good at keeping rules. :-)

As far as cleaning, I am terrible at keeping up with it. Sometimes having a list helps, but usually I also need someone coming over who will see how I actually live to get me to clean. I have done a but better now that I have a toddler, since it is a safety issue to have certain things out where he could reach them. But laundry still ends up piled around...

My pocket items are almost always in place. My place is pretty cluttered, partly because I can find things easier if a corner is visible than if they are in a drawer. If things are put away, I have to guess if they were filed by material, function, size, or age. The longer I stay in one place, the more things find a handiest location, where I remember to return them.
From time to time, I cruise around plucking things that have not been used for some time, and put them away. I try to persist until I have at least one clear space to put down new packages in most of the time, but may finish a project I uncover instead.
