Maybe you'd better start a poll, Smudge, to see which term most of us vote for.

Procrustean is too highbrow and pretentious-sounding I reckon, and there probably would be lots of crustacean jokes! I'd still go with autiephobic and / or aspiphobic.

All such movements must be positive in nature and focus on what autistic people have achieved or are achieving. There's plenty of things I read about that counteract the negative things. But less folk hear about them because news likes to thrive on sensationalism.

Here's my suggestion: "neurological Procrusteans." A bit long, but gets the point across about what's wrong with it and why, and also encompasses ill-treatment of other kinds of neurodivergent people besides just autistic people.

I doubt it would "catch", but it's a great suggestion, as it takes into account additional nuances and reflects a pervasive attitude :thumleft:

I doubt anyone will be harmed by learning a new word, even a "big" one and the story is more relevant these days than ever!

Theres quite a lot of advocacy for autism at the moment (compared to almost none before the year 2000) and it's really hitting the mainstream. In England Chris Packham is a famous aspergian and he is fairly well liked and respected.
Services and organisations are slowly responding to and making allowances for autism.

If we were to start with this labelling and name calling stuff it wouldnt really do any good. It would probably just make things worse by starting, basically a war, against anyone who doesnt like autistic people.

I've had NT friends who saw me as a decent chap but a bit clueless. I'd rather be seen like that instead of someone who seeks power over them and doesnt allow them to voice a criticism.
Also it would make it impossible for us to criticise NT's even in playful and fun manner.

I admit, I backed off from this thread because it felt too militant for me. It was my creation. But eh. I'm not that bothered about it in all fairness. I'm all up for people thinking of funny and silly answers.

Yeah, we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously and should be able to laugh at ourselves, yet be defensive amd on the warpath when we see someone on the spectrum treated unjustly.

Sounds like a winner

Speaking of "big words": a Dutch friend introduced me to the wonderous concept of "expensive words" (as they call them in Dutch). It became an endless source of jokes and ribbing both with him and my wife.
