What made them think schizophrenia? I don’t see the overlap.
Shutdowns - from outside they look quite similar to schizophrenic catatonia;
I was dissociated, derealized to the point I didn't recognize myself in a mirror;
I said how much people scared me;
I couldn't employ my standard masking and passing strategies which made me even more scared of meeting random people;
After administered antipsychotics, I complained about discomfort of people staring at me in public transport - they did really stare, I had serious extrapyramidal symptoms, why shouldn't they?
When trying to describe severe sensory overload I used words like "pain... but not real pain" - I learned the term "sensory overload" about a year later and I finally had the words to describe it to shrinks!
I did have real mental health problems, crushing anxiety, deep depression, dissociation... and for some shrinks, apparently, any serious mental illness is schizophrenia :/
