After they developed the oral polio vaccine, virtually no one took the injected version of the polio vaccine.

I seem to heard of people who have had two doses of the vaccination for covid and been infected with it after having been vaccinated. I seem to feel as though any hope is trying to be dashed and that will never free from the iron grip of this virus, which I know sounds silly because it will at some point but that's how it feels to me.

Yes, it is tough. And feels depressing. Yet we're the lucky ones. Sooner or later, in a few months or a couple of years, this damned virus will be a thing of the past, the same as Spanish flu or Black Death. But we'll still be here, with plenty of time left.

It is the oldest, who are hit the hardest. It must be horrible, in the eve of your life, to get so viciously assaulted by the constant barrage of fear, despair and suffering coming at you from all directions. All the while being (in some cases) denied the contact with their loved ones, presumably for their own protection.

I'm getting better at this stuff!

As someone who got the first Moderna shot, the only side effect I had was a sore arm for about a day, which went away on its own. Allegedly, the second dose is when your immune system recognizes it and triggers things like a mild fever or body aches. Usually, those go away within a day as well, and in my opinion is far better than the virus. I do think we may end up having to get an annual booster shot, but to me, it's just like getting an annual flu vaccine. To me, the vaccines are hope that the pandemic is nearing its end, and we can get back to life almost like before it hit. It means being able to go back to work and do things like see live music, and attend gatherings again.

I've had one Moderna shot. Slight soreness at the injection site, and slight chills and wooziness, mostly during the second day, rather than the first day, after the shot.

One leading epidemiologist has said that we might see several more years having to wear masks and socially distance and hearing that just made my heart sink.

Some people have said this pandemic could be as long as Spanish Flu lasted from 1918 to 1920 but obviously I know both covid and flu are two different viruses. SARS, another coronavirus lasted from 2002 to 2004 and it wasn't still in China in 2005 and there was no vaccine for it even though it may have been in hiding somewhere remote as the only virus that has ever been eradicated by humans was Small pox.

I can't wait until I can get my shot. They're giving it by age group in Canada. My time will come up in May, I hope.

I think it's worth noting that vaccines for any virus can not work sometimes. You might get side-effects, you might get sick, or you might get infected despite getting the vaccine. The same is true of all vaccines, but we don't then despair that all vaccines are useless. It's that the vaccine works most of the time, and that most of the community is vaccinated that makes them effective. The covid vaccine fails sometimes because sometimes vaccines fail, it's not new or unusual and has been accounted for by medical experts.
