Is "attention to details" a stereotype?

This is a tough one. So many on the spectrum have matching comorbidities (i.e., ptsd, anxiety, adhd, etc.) that manifest similarly to autism. For instance, do I notice details because I'm autistic or do I notice details because I'm hyper-vigilant due to ptsd? I'm not sure there's an easy way to untangle crossover symptoms.

As you mention most NT that are good at details also excel in areas that most common people don't. These NT people are outliers. Among autistics you'd find many more of these specialists. You need to be autistic to be able to sit at a computer for the extended period that it takes for example.

Like most things for ASD I am ON or OFF. So I can be highly detailed, or not at all. I am detailed about puzzles and numbers, my ASD BFF is detailed about dates, another friend is detailed about clothing. For the life of me I can't remember dates nor what my kids are wearing. I can't even remember where I put the top of the yogurt that I just opened. But I could tell you DMC floss numbers going back 40 years.

I'm detailed about dates----but certainly not about clothes.....
