I find this to be helpful:

Whenever someone asks me what's the best, worst, my favorite, most whatever, any kind of question that takes subjective experiences and asks me to place one at the top, I tend to fall into indecision paralysis when trying to answer.  I can list off things I feel that way about pretty easily, but to pick one I feel that way the most seems pretty much impossible for me.  Anyone else?
Not really; quality-based answers are mostly matters of opinion, while quantity-based answers are matters of fact.  While there is some overlap, fudging your answers on the factual side is the way to go.

Keep in mind that "I do not know" is also a perfectly acceptable answer.

Yes. Unless there is a tiebreaker, only one thing is the "best"

However plenty of mugs say " world's best mom"

Hyperbole

Not literal misinterpretation

In my years I've learned that people don't like it when I answer 'I don't know.'

My favorite movie? None. If I like a story, then I like a story. It never have to be the best nor worst.
My favorite color? I'd choose my birth gemstone.
My favorite number? My birthdate's number of day.
My favorite restaurant? None. :P As long as I can afford the menu, able to get foods I usually prefer and nothing around would bother me. I never have to review it good or bad.

That's how I usually give answers.

That sounds like me. I would probably name several things and explain what the strengths of each one are. I can picture one particular friend of mine saying, "I just asked which one you liked the best! Just tell me that!"

Today a student asked for my favorite color and for the first time in decades, and as a direct result of this post, I answered with a different color. I briefly waited for some cosmic bell or something. Just like that I can switch my "favorite" color? I was certain somebody was going to jump out and say something. When that didn't happen, I of course asked the child for their favorite color. It was quite freeing as I think I've been sick of my previous "favorite" color for at least five years. It hadn't occurred to me to simply say something different. Maybe I could do it Siri style and chose a different color every time. OMG the Universe has just revealed itself to me.

My favorite color has been bright red for years. That’s not going to change.

I'm always amazed at how annoyed people get when I say, "I don't have favorites."
