What kind of medication works for Asperger?
It was the best medication I ever took, i had to switch due to my liver complications ( in the end it was my diet not Risperidone)
I didn't know Risperidone was bad for your liver!
I kind of like it too, but either the Risperidone or the gabapentin - one of those two is messing with my ability to feel joy and stuff, so I'm kind of unhappy about this and don't know what to do. They are doing their jobs but at a cost that I don't like.
Several types of medications others have noted above may be prescribed for co-occurring mental health difficulties. Unfortunately there is no research into whether any of these, e.g. SSRIs are actually helpful for autistic adults or what their side effect profile is like in autistic adults. If you're interested in helping develop this evidence, you can look up and express an interest in the STRATA Study which aims to find if sertraline is effective in the treatment of anxiety in autistic adults and its side effects bristol.ac.uk/strata

I have seen people cite benefit in small doses of such things as antidepressants for managing stuff which come along with autism. I cite for example Temple Grandin speaking of taking a very small dose on an old, generic antidepressant which brings anxiety well under control. (speaking on UCTV : My Experience of Autism)
Dozens of anti-anxiety and anti-depressants over the years all affect me in the same following way:
1) There is a slight change and lift in mood.
2) I relapse and they seem to stop working.
3) I experience the side effects and none of the benefits.
Even when combining them with a good diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle, they're more of a burden on my well-being than anything else.
Though hardly 100%, I feel genuinely better without them.

I'm talking about drugs (don't know the technical term in english), the medication which affect your brain like
antidepressant etc.
I tried benzodiazepines when they were legally available during the legal high era of the 2010s.
I didn't completely understand why they held so much appeal to me at the time. Not only did they work wonders for my social anxiety, but it is only in the last few days that I have finally understood that they enabled me to "mask" way more effectively than I ever could do without them. Life was so much easier, the difference was absolutely night and day. People suddenly liked me, and the positive reinforcement effect was striking.
So their benefit was twofold. Increased masking success and anxiety eliminated.
Of course benzodiazepines have a number of issues, not least that they can easily lead to addiction problems if you're not very careful. But in my opinion, they are unduly demonised by many people these days, including by most non private Drs. If you have the means to afford a private subscription there will be a way to obtain them, otherwise forget it. I dont think this is right or fair, because in my experience they have proved a valuable benefit in my life, way in excess of any of the problems that I have encountered due to using them. I mean, the benefits have far outweighed the problems in my case.
