Lets see.. grunting, weird noises, snippets of quotes and paraphrasings, random (very bad) foreign languages, tunes I've heard, tunes I made up, tunes I think I might have made up but then again might be remembering. Mostly Im alone, but I have to catch myself before i do it in public sometimes. I always assumed it was linked with my vocal tone appropriateness issues.

I whistle with my teeth and talk to my pet birds.

I sat here and couldn't think of one NT that I know who makes sounds.

I think my husband and I are both AS and we are both bad about making sounds. Only when it's just the two of us or when our daughter is around though. We don't make sounds in public. We don't do them constantly though or we'd drive each other insane. It's like clicking the tongue, different sounds made with the mouth/lips, tapping pencils/pens/objects, drumming our hands against our thighs, humming music, etc. Just mild nervous/energized behavior.

Last year my sister flew out to spend a couple of weeks with us and we drove her mad with our noises and singing, and the thing she hated more than anything was when someone would say a sentence and it would spark off a song by my husband or I. Like if my sister said "I had a weird dream last night." we'd sing "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" or we'd rattle off Martin Luther Kings "I had a dream...." It's like there is a song or a saying to everything anyone says.

I think that is probably when she decided she didn't want to move to my town and hang out with me LOL

I make "hums" that are a few seconds long and monotone in nature. Some are sort of like very soft slightly drawn out grunts, but most are like soft hums. If there is a loud constant noise I make loooooooooooong hums one right after another until the noise stops.

The song triggering thing is a nightmare.. and the worst thing is, the more songs you know, the worse it gets. Barely a sentence goes past that doesnt involve a song lyric these days. Sometimes our house is like the set for a Broadway musical...especially near christmas, or if my brother is around.. (we have a tendency to sing old adverts and tenacious D in duet.)

definitely.....i hum incessively when bored...grunt loudly when agitted and mutter words some of the profanital nature and some other less offensive adj and verbs...

it wouldnt be a stretch to say that all of these as i am sure with most aspies here experience these because of emotional stimulation, over or under....and now that i have said that has anyone noticed that sim-is the first word in stimulation....???? just an observation

I just assumed that stim was short for stimulation. Anyone know more about this?

Actually, I do know a few relatives on my husbands side, and at least one on my side that do. I'm very sensitive to other people's noises, and odd mannerisms, so I notice things that others probably don't.(which is funny since I'm usually the one doing the odd things) Two of the people that I'm talking about making a humming noise inbetween speaking, especially when they're nervous, and my mom makes a specific rhythm of hums when she's thinking.

Edited for accuracy: Upon closer examination of my vocalizations, I realize that I make a wide variety of humming sounds in a wide variety of situations, each of them expressing something or other. I also sometimes hum slightly discordant, made-up-as-I-go-along tunes. All of this only when I'm alone.

I make lots of weird noises, though mostly when I am alone. Alot of whistling, clicking, chirping, some James Brown-like vocalizations (like Heh!). Also humming "symmetrical music".

I also talk in funny voices or mimmic people spontaneously.
Most people don't like it.
