I love my obsessions or passions as I call them

I'm fascinated by biological and psychological health as well as humanitarian aspects such as poverty etc...it is a most interesting area of study.

but alas I cannot afford to study right now...*emoticon for heart broken*

I don't get people based obsessions very often, I seem to be more interested in doing or learning about things that fascinate me.

id like a sexy boyfriend though

ignore my qi of 143 when I am beingsoppy..the one negates the other

It usually ranges from three months to three years. ADHD has never allowed me to be single-minded.
And that often left me with a skill.

Motorsports has lasted off and on most of my life. Many others have been faded and not come back.

I also wish I could have some kind of passion that runs through my life.
Literature probably will be.
More often, my obsessions are like burning, so bright for a short time, and then leaving behind charcoal or embers.

As a child, usually between a few weeks to a few years. As I aged, my interests solidified. The last one lasted 11 years, and the current one is 5 years and counting. I don't really have much interest in anything beyond the one I have at the moment.

My interest is borderline obsessive because although I enjoy it, it takes 99% of my "me" time and I sometimes wish I could quit. At the very least I wish it were related to money or career instead.

That is how we learn. One little interest after another. And over time we can become subject level experts on a wide divergence of interest. One of the interesting things about Aspies is THAT WE NEVER STOP LEARNING.

That is the definition of the Multipotentialite/Scanner/Renaissance person that I mentioned above. Interesting! A correlation between Aspies and that type of person.

Our preoccupation with the topic is narrow and restrictive, not the topic itself.
To some extent these special interests must interfere with our ability to function.

Oh I didn't know that. I thought the topic had to be narrow and unusual to show a person was autistic, like a certain type of washing machine or the life cycle of red ants.

So if all I talked about and focused on was my obsession with reading and writing, that would interfere with my ability to function. Although I do live in a fantasy world so maybe I'm not functioning!

Yes, I do that. I've come to love that about myself though. It's like being a phoenix- burning bright then falling into charcoal, then rising again. It means that I lose interest in toxic people after a while. I can get obsessed with someone, then one day they've pushed my buttons too often and I disappear from their lives instead of them continuing to hurt me.

Passions! Now that's a much better name for them!

When I say "When you stop learning you are dead" most NTs eyes glaze over.

I have had one long obsession. But it's a complex field and I have looked at various aspects of it at different times. That has kept things new. It can be difficult to find new material when one has hammered on studying a subject for quite a while. Then I've shifted gears to another aspect.

I've also had shorter interests. Weeks to months. I often feel these are less productive as I learn a lot of stuff and then at some point drop it all for something else. With my major passion there is the chance i might manage something useful. I have some very scattered notes on a "book" about it. The ADHD just means I keep altering the focus of it each time I do some work.

Yes. They aren't the most curious or inquisitive of people, are they. I often think autistic people are just another version of homo sapien. Not worse, not better. Just different. Scientists have proved, haven't they, that humans are more different from each other than they originally thought.

I've been obsessed with The Olympics both summer and winter for 38 years.

I've been obsessed with The Kinks for 28 years.

I've been obsessed with the Internet for 25 years.

I've been obsessed with London for 34 years.

My obsessions do not interfere with my life.

Ooh I love the Olympics and other big sporting events e.g. Wimbledon, football European and World cups.

Surely everyone is obsessed with the internet these days?

Yes it's probably considered wildly eccentric to not spend hours every day on the Web.
