How do you deal with strong smells?
I have smellophobia. The real name is "Hyperosmia": an overwhelming sensitivity to scent.
I have an extremely keen memory of every smell in my life.
I can remember what my clothes smelled like in pictures from 50 years ago.
I know what the weather or house smelled like.
The scent comes back to life like I'm experiencing it again (it's not just a memory).
I'm very sensitive to any prolonged smell, even if I like it.
When I'm baking or roasting anything, I have to wait outside or I'll get sick (vomit).
Sometimes I will be so sick my nausea / migraine with aura will last for days.
Worst culprits: Cocoa, chocolate, Italian Wedding Soup, ham, roast chicken or turkey.
When I was a child I always got sick on Thanksgiving and Christmas or any big family meals.
It's because I couldn't stand the smell of the food roasting, even if it smelled delicious.
I actually love turkey, so that's not the problem.
I even like the smell of it -- but it makes me sick anyway.
I learned that I have to show up when the food is ready, but not beforehand.
I can't have flowers in my house even though I like the smell of flowers (except lilies)
My ex sends me roses every Valentine's Day and I have to throw them out (Yes, I've told him.)
I can get sick if there's a chocolate chip in a cookie anywhere in my house.
Chemical smells: NO WAY. No perfume, scented products, chemical air fresheners.
A smell doesn't have to be bad (or strong) for me to dislike it.
When I love a smell I'll indulge as long as I can but then I have to walk away.
I still can't let it linger.

I had the same experience. I tried some colognes when I was younger, but these can handle only certain kinds of subtle scents. All of my grooming products are either barely scented or fragrance free.
For me, one of the worst scent experiences is walking through the detergent aisle at the grocery store. But at least I could leave that aisle. Even worse was when I took the train to work and a women with a strong perfume that she had just put on would sit next to me. Sometimes the scent was so overwhelming that I had to get up and move.
I can't actually smell most things.
No clue why, it might be the times I got hit in the face with a basketball or it might be natural, cause my sense of taste is fine.
I avoid really sweet smells anyway, because it makes my nose burn and it gets stuck in my mouth and throat. I mostly stick to more "masculine" scents that aren't too strong, cause I like them way more. If you have the option, I would leave the room, and if you can't maybe keeping a cloth face mask could help, as I've noticed I have to fight to smell anything while wearing one, and even then I have to shove it up my nose basically.
With that being said, why people wear ungodly amounts of perfume is beyond me, and I hate it with a burning passion.
