What I hate is when someone takes a really bad photo of me, and everyone else says 'that's such a good likeness of you, you look exactly like that!'

I think, 'OMG do I look like THAT!' and feel so embarrassed.

If your weird feeling is mostly based on selfies, don't worry. Most people look distorted in selfies and weird.

If you feel that your smiles is unnatural or poses stiff, that can be improved by practicing in front of a mirror. Try different looks until you find the one that look nicest / friendliest and get used to that look. Maybe it would be helpful to use imagination as well. Say imagine your favorite kitty is purring in front of you, or something else that you love is there, then your smile will be more natural. Most good things in life come from practice. IMO this is worth practicing for.

I've been told I "don't photograph well". I take this as a positive. It suggests I don't look quite so stupid in real life.

The thing is, people say 'the camera never lies.'

What a load of codswallop. The camera rarely shows a true picture, IMO.

My son and I are expressive and take good photos generally. My husband and daughter are inexpressive and didn't. I have taught them --- they may now take better photos than my son and I! So in our household it's related to personality (not Autism as only one of the expressive and inexpressive are Autistic) and can be improved.

Yes, my daughter is like that. She always strikes a pose and looks brilliant or cute. She is more of an extrovert than me, for sure!

I feel very uncomfortable getting my picture taken and that's how I look: uncomfortable. I slouch or grimace, and often my eyes are looking off to the side, which looks weird in a picture.

It always looks like I have one to two eyes closed and look sedated or I have a fake fearful grin. I’ll have people take multiple photos. They tell me to smile and not fake it. It’s exhausting. I am alway amazed that my daughter can instantaneously make these big-teethed pageant girl smiles without prompting. As a kid, I always wondered why I always got it wrong.

I often seem to be mid blink in photos. I've seen myself talking on video too and it's just like WTF, loads of weird expressions going on

I used to cringe whenever I saw myself in photos... still do, but I'm improving my RSI as I move on with my life.
