It is surprising for me because usually any type of drug affects me much more strongly than other people and I have to have a smaller dose.

My partner is like that. Doctors never believe us when we tell them to give her less of everything than most people need and it always causes problems when they don't listen.

Doctors never bloody listen. They always say 'this shouldn't happen'. Well it is happening, they can see it happening in front of them! :x

I don't come out of the stuff so swell. I'm not sure what it is, but when I wake up, I freak out. When I had my gallbladder removed and they were bringing me back to, I bolted up and was apparently carrying on about how one of the nurses and I were actually the same person. I almost busted out my stitches. My adopted brother..his mom used to work in an operating room and said that happens to people now and then...some folks just flip out on from that stuff.

The first op I ever had they gave me an epidural for it due to asthma. It was a knee op and because I was awake I really wanted to see what they were doing and kept trying to look, I was given something that just knocked me out, don't know what it was but felt fine when I came round. My mum came to visit and checked my medical notes at the bottom of the bed and it said that my heart stopped and they had to give me a reversal

The only time I know I had a general anaesthetic was this year and I went out like a light and came round feeling fine.

My GF says general anaesthetic longer than 2-4 hours is like a poison to her and it takes her weeks to feel right.

I broke my wrist when I was ten, and for some reason they needed to give me a general to reset it. I guess it was a really bad break? When I woke up from anaesthesia I told the doctor I'd had a dream about The Bee Gees while I was sedated. He said that was impossible because people can't dream during anaesthesia. I don't remember the dream but I know I wasn't lying and I was really offended as a child. It seemed like the doctor didn't believe me.

After my longest surgery as an adult I woke up screaming that I wanted to go back under because I'd seen my (dead) dad and I wanted to see him again. I remember the screaming but I can't remember what I saw of my dad. Maybe it was a dream or maybe it was one of those near-death experience things, but there's no record of me coming close to dying. Anyway I was really distraught because I wanted them to knock me out again so I could see him. They actually injected me with something to calm or sedate me from screaming, while they were still rolling me down the hallway to the recovery room. Again I felt like they thought I was crazy or I was lying but I know I wasn't lying. I just wish I could remember what I'd experienced.

^Resetting a broken wrist would not have tickled, so I'm not surprised they gave you a general anaesthetic.

In 2005/6 I had general anaesthetic 8 times in the space of two weeks for ECT. I'm still surprised at how well I got through it. Each time I'd walk up with a headache but that was to be expected.

The longest operation I had went for four hours. I had my bottom jaw broken and reset forward (to correct an overbite). I woke up feeling very relaxed and dozy.

If anyone is concerned about being sick after waking up, ask the anaesthetist before your operation to give you an anti-emetic. This will prevent vomiting.

This is what I can't understand. I am oversensitive to EVERYTHING ELSE so why am I okay with anaesthetic? I just put it down to my kick ass respiratory system. It is the strongest system in my body.

Whereas my digestive system is the weakest, so everything that goes through that affects me negatively. I dunno!
