I dislike change and resist it, particularly if it's being forced on me. That said, I accept that change is inevitable, often necessary and sometimes for the good. I am generally deeply dissatisfied with the status quo despite my resistance to change. What fun!

I have to find a way of having enough routine and consistency around me that the change doesn't spin me out completely.

Balance and timing.

Update: I told my psychiatrist that Germany and the helmet are a big part of who I am and she accepted that it was a part of me that she couldn't change, so she moved onto something else.

Remember when I started this thread? I'm trying something new. I'm using an avatar that shows a different side of me today. If I'm comfortable with the change, I'll keep it for the next 6 days, switch to Schultz to celebrate John Banner's birthday and switch back to the Routemaster the next day.

Hate it. Despise it. But now I need to go change the darn sheets. lol I love my routines (when I can remember them and have the energy to complete them). Any disruption is no good. Dont change the formula. It was good already. Ugh...change.

The latest change imposed on me is a week of extremely cold weather that has led to water supply shutdowns and "boil orders" when the water comes back on again but it's dirty and infected so it's dangerous unless you boil it. You have to be Einstein to figure out how to wash hands and dishes safely and easily. And to cap it all, freezing rain is forecast for Monday, and freezing rain is notorious for bringing power lines down. Can't boil water without electricity. No sign of getting the "all clear" with the boil order, and it's been like that for about a week so far. Still, I'd been getting rather down in the dumps with nothing much to do recently, and the challenge has woken me up and made me a bit brighter, so maybe I shouldn't grumble.

Anyway, maybe it doesn't count as a straightforward change because there's an obvious element of crisis and inconvenience in it that practically everybody would hate.

There are times that I try to change to suit everyone else here on WP and 15 minutes later, I'm back to my old self. I hope that my psychiatrist doesn't try to change me. I'm going to have to tell her that I'm autistic.

I thought ‘we’ all hate change .. it’s not exactly news is it ?

I agree with others who say it's a lot more manageable if I initiate the change, but also I need to have taken time to mentally prepare for it. I feel like I need a mental preparation time for anything new or different. For example, my long term therapist was leaving the clinic, but he gave me notice about 3 months before he left. If he didn't give me this notice and just up and left, I would have a lot more difficult time with adjusting to the change of him being gone.

Unexpected change that changes up my whole day to day routine within a short amount of time in a way that makes everything harder is what is most difficult for me to deal with.

Not a new discovery, but I for one often find it interesting to revisit ideas and develop my thoughts about them. It's not simply a case of "we all hate change," it's more nuanced than that, as many of the posts here show.

Change is only good if it's in your pocket...

Almost every time something changes, it's for the worse, and the world is even worse than before. Every two minutes there's some new global crisis, and because of that younger people are choosing not to have kids and who can blame them? Between the nukes and the climate, this planet is doomed.

When people tell you to "go touch grass", they forget how the grass is crawling with ticks that carry Lyme disease.
