I have a severely autistic son. However, I can't trace any other genes in our family besides my brother, and I, and of course my children.

I don't have any severely autistic relatives that I know of - I seem, once again, to be the only one of my entire family who has to deal with it (as I have been with epilepsy and various allergies).

Neither severely autistic nor having AS. Here I wrote some time ago about my two relatives having some AS traits but they didn't have AS. There are not people from the spectrum or having any mental illnesses (with an exception of my grandfather's sister who lives in an asylum for many years) in my family.

I just remembered my father had a cousin who spent that last 10 years of in life in a mental institution. He was not diagnosed with autism, but he suffered from chronic stereotypy all his life and had very poor gross motor skills and always hopeless at sport. He was good with figures but a poor communicator. Like he did not like speaking on the phone and bad at holding conversations. He also had motor tics. Due to his poor social skills he never got married; neither did any other of his other three siblings. So they may also be effected to a lesser degree.

My brother has severe autism. He's twenty seven years old and the mind of a ten years old. He doesn't seem to be able to control things like gass, saliva, anger, etc. He breathes heavily, as if he's slurping. I shared the room with him for ten years until we had a big fight and I got my own. I know he couldn't help most of all, but he still was a egotistical, perverted jerk that treated me as an uninvited guest, and whose antics were annihilating my mental stability.

Have a severely autistic 3rd cousin...would only see him at annual christmas eve party where the men would get him drunk.
Then there was my grandfather's brother who had some pretty severe problems...and my grandfather seemed kinda aspie-ish himself...but that could be because he was from a different culture/generation...

My brother and sister may be borderline cases, on the Autism spectrum but functional
in most other ways. When we were children our foster parents gave us a hard time
because of our obsessive interests and our stims.

Yes; I have a severely autistic great cousin (son of my great uncle), he also has a little mental retardation (at least from what I heard but I'm unsure). A lot of people in my family display mild autistic traits, especially people from my mom's side of the family.

There are some relatives on my mother's side of the family that show some AS and OCD mild traits, and ADHD blood in my father's side. But I don't know about someone with "classic autism".

No one I know of with severe autism. But my uncle has what I would call severe Aspergers. He is in his 50's and always lived with his mother, never had any friends and only had a couple part time jobs in his entire life. He's way more severe than I am. On my mom's side of family my cousins are all Aspies I think. And one of my cousin's has a son who has severe ADHD and Aspergers. He's 19 but he's still like a little child. I don't know if he will ever be able to make it on his own.

I also have a nephew who has severe everything- AS, Bipolar, ADHD, OCD, Personality Disorder but we aren't blood related. He's my step-sister's child that she had while strung out on drugs.

Yup I have a cousin who is severe. I shall be seeing him soon. First time I have seen him in 10 years which was way before I realised what I had. should be interesting.
