As long as you can do it and it won't injure you or cause you to lose your home, I say do it. You don't have to answer to them. Why do other people have the hobbies they have or do what they do, even though it means nothing to me or other people? Why do I do what I do? It doesn't matter. Just do it, have fun and be happy.
People spend lots of time/money/energy into restoring old cars even though that technology is old and there are new cars out there. Why? Because they have fun doing it.
Have fun, and I hope your project turns out well.

Got some of the wiring done, not all, but enough to try and test it, and blew out a TH571... Man, when a vacuum tube blows, you can easily remember that smell.

I'm thinking this thread should be moved to the random board, it may have "changed" the purpose now...

Unless the BASE melts(which would require a LOT of power, it won't smell. Maybe you blew a transformer, capacitor, or even a resistor. Tubes are in vacumes, sealed in glass, and often just metal.

You are designing your OWN TV with no schematics? You aren't even going to WRITE schematics? GOOD LUCK! I guess it is dangerous.(or worse...)

yea, i think something else went, replacement tube didn't fix it...

i can't read schematics, nor can i write them.. But i can easily "picture" how a circuit should be put together, and that's what/how i'm doing this..

You're braver than most. A lot of frequencies, voltages, alignments have to be just so. The SLIGHTEST bit off, and you get interference, etc... A little work, and it won't work. A little more, and something FRIES! I doubt even tesla would have attempted what you appear to want to do, and HE understood it all, and apparently had a perfect eidetic memory.

Go for it, it sounds like a fun project.

well, i did already fry some parts, i apparently blew 2 resistors, and the AC transformer from the outlet power... (the windings shorted out)...

I guess i'll use paper, pencil, and erasers, and perhaps a calculator.. but still, im doing it by myself..

I've read all your posts, now I know you have empyrical experience, that's great.

All what I have to tell you is: Be careful, follow the warnings that other WP members gave you (a hand in a pocket, don't use jewerly, . . .), and go for it!

I hope your family and friends can see what an aspie can do :)

of course ;) i also tend to wear those crazy yellow rubber gloves my mother used to wear when doing the dishes... they are good for doing these kinds of things...

When this TV is done, I should dedicate it to everyone who has aspergers, and show it off or something.. It will be a great TV, and might even become my main SDTV (over my HDTV for regular channels)..
