Lol. I do sometimes. My dad does it.When he's really going on about something that interests him (he's such an aspie, but he's diagnosed ADHD) or he gets worked up he'll pause and say the last sound of the word he just says like "and then we went to the park...k"

I think I have echolalia. Sometimes I'll repeat things out loud right after I hear them...usually if i find it humorous.

I often "replay" scenes in my head but had never thought of this as echolalia; I just assumed everyone did it.

As for paralalia, I had never even heard of this before. People often complain that I keep repeating myself over and over when I am explaining things to them. I don't think this is true paralalia though - I think it happens when I do not get any acknowledgement from the person I am talking to that they have understood, so I keep saying it over again until they do understand. (This is probably AS - maybe they are giving me "non-verbal" acknowledgement that I am not noticing?)

I have palilalia. It happens all the time when I'm talking to myself (probably because no one's around so I'm not trying to suppress it) and sometimes under my breath or in my head if I'm talking to other people.

never heard about parafalia.
i do the repeating of words, i also learn by copying other people's actions (a lot easier than if i have to figure out all the information in another way, verbal often fails exept when it is easy to imagine in a visual way)
all kinds of behaviours, situations, conversations, actions play in my head , all the time.
after seeing a movie, i feel like i act like one of the characters.

sometimes it is even too much and i also have to opress negative images regurlarly (that i'm being attacked, bitten by a wild dog, fall from a ladder, have to escape a burning house, etc)

My thing is sounds.... I compulsively repeat sounds sometimes. People think I'm being funny and in a way I am but they don't realize it's mostly compulsive. Birds, sound effects on TV, sirens - you name it. I've gotten quite good and could give that guy from the Police Academy movies a run for his money (if he has any left).

Ho.ly.s**t. I can't believe I read that just now... I thought I was just a basket case! I too divide up words and count them, not on my fingers but into twos. I'll read an entire book that way, reading it out loud in my head (you know what I mean) and sort of emphasizing it in twos as I go. Example: The-small brown-fox jumped-o ver-the la-zy dog... damn! I doesn't come out even! But if I add the number of words to the number of syllables (11 syllables + 9 words), it does come out and I feel better about the world. And I'll usually try it in threes too, just for the hell of it. lol

That's what I love about WP -- all the things about myself that I thought were nutty turn out to be relatively common, if you look in the right group of people. :)

I had a bad case of palilalia when younger. It's still there somewhere in the back of my skull, but I can suppress it now. When I was younger I had about as much control over that as over my heart-beat. I couldn't even force it to stop.

I do sometimes repeat what other's said or what I said..Especially if it gets wrong. If you are tired and you say a word wrong I have to repeat it

By the way I really like the words echolalia and palilalia, they feel good on my tongue  8O Hard to explain what I mean with that..
