I've always found milk sort of disgusting, even as a child. Seems like somebody was always saying, "Drink your milk!" I hated to wash a glass that had contained milk, because of the slimy residue. I switched to Lactaid in my adulthood, but soon stopped drinking that. Now I use soy milk and rice/almond milk on cereal and in cooking, and it works just fine. Milk and cheese products cause excess phlegm, as well. If I give in and have cheese, I get a ferocious sinus headache that can last up to three days, for some reason.

I grew up drinking milk and dont recall any problems until around 12....then it seemed to be about 10 min after finishing milk,I would spend the next 30min in the bathroom in pain and cramping.Unfortunately,I had no idea what was causing this and continued drinking it(while living with my family).Once I was out on my own,I stopped drinking it but still have ocassional IBS after meals...not sure what is triggering it now.I can sometimes have small amounts of milk without problems...cheese and butter and other times it send me running to the bathroom...but so do other foods(I haven figured out my triggers yet).

I was once seeing a holistic kind of doctor, and he had me keep a food diary for a week, as well as do this pulse test, where you took your resting pulse upon awakening, and then took it at 30, 60, and 90 minute intervals after a meal, if I remember correctly. I recorded this along with the foods I had consumed. He explained that an elevated pulse indicated an allergic reaction. I got the elevated pulse after so many things, that I rebelled and started eating them again, anyway. It was hard to give up so many delicious things.

Thats actually the same reaspn that I am hesitaating about going in for allergy testing. They admit that they often result in.....results indicating you are allergic to things you are not really allergic to and saying you are not allergic to things you really are allergic to 8O  SO,I hesitate to give up things I really like based on something that seems "hit and miss" and not scientifically conclussive. There are also so many things beside food in our environments that could be causeing alergic syptoms...for me it's IBS and rashs but I think some "achy body and joints(arthritis),headaches, anxiety, foggy brain" can all be related to allergic reactions.I think even AS traits can be exasterbated by allergy responses...but so can social interactions and other life stressers......it's difficult to tease apart all the things that go into the human mind/body chemistry.Ooooch,my head hurts just thinking about it.

Yeah, I agree with you, Krex. I recently did this body cleanse thing, with a fiber drink, capsules for parasite, and a special tea. They promised so much, the testimonials were so raving, I tried it. While it did address some of my issues, it didn't cure nearly as much as it promised to. I now very cynical about these "do everything, fix everything" promises from some of these manufacturers. After all, like you say, how can we know what is causing what? I've got so many half used bottles of vitamins in my kitchen...

I am tolerant of all peoples, including the lactose. They are a proud race and rightly so. :D

I wish I was lactose intolerant so I wouldn't be as fat as I am already.

I'm not lactose intolerant, but I prefer to drink water when I'm thirsty.

I can't drink milk by itself, which is okay because I don't even like it. :) I looooove soy milk though. For years I couldn't eat ice cream, but now I can, thank goodness.

Yes for me. Wasn't as a kid but it developed through the teenage years.
I can only stand a very small amount of milk, about a 1/8 or a 1/4 cup of milk.
It kind of sucks since I miss having a good chocolate milk.

I am wondering this as DD consumes a lot of milk (2 gallons a week if we'd let her!). Trying to wean her off but fighting a 15yo in a routine is no joy ride!

Why are you weaning her off of milk? "Milk does a body good!"

But to answer your question, yes, I am lactose intolerant. I never had a problem with milk until about the year 2000, or 2001 (?) thereabouts... I was soooo disappointed! Now I have to use "Dairy Digestive" supplements when I eat ice cream or eat something with milk in it. I drink Lactose Free milk. I find that the name brands don't work for me... I have to use a store brand.. odd I know. I don't have a problem with eating cheese in moderation because the enzyme's have already broken down the lactose.

I noticed that over the years, dairy products used to give me gastro-intestinal problems. Now, if I have ice-cream or soft cheeses, like cream cheese or processed, I get inflamed sinuses and/or a sinus infection.

Instead of a lactose intolerance, I bet you are actually allergic to either milk or a gum or bean etc ingredient that is often found in ice cream and creamed cheese. Look at the ingredient list and see what all those products that make you have sinus infections have in common.
