I tend to think of memories as 'burned' into our brain cells by chemical reactions so things I remember must have been pretty intense emotionally or physically for me.

The only way I can 'date' my childhood memories is to try and remember the place we should have lived at the time.
We lived in Springfield, MO. when I was 1y.o., maybe 2y.o. and I have one vague picture of looking across a snowy backyard at a gate.

We moved to El Paso, Texas sometime after that and then my memories are described by the street we lived on... The Matterhorn House.
These memories could range anywhere from... well, actually I still don't know if we moved there when I was 2 or 5?
I have bits of memories (most are not that great to recall though) from those days, with the later ones being more vivid.

We moved two more times after that when I was a teen, and again, the memories are easier to recall, but I seem to forget lots of stuff my family remembers well.

Heck, sometimes I'm not sure I'm even with the right family... their stories sound so alien to me! :?

If I drive across the state, through a city I have never been to before, to a house I have never seen before, I can replay that whole drive in my mind years later. I won't remember any names of things like streets (perhaps the town itself?), addresses, or distances, and I definitely won't remember how long it takes to get there, but I can drive you right up to the door without a problem!

wow, interesting testimonies ! !!
Anyway, I have made some investigations, and I guess I fell I keep more memories of places I have been than experiences with others.
And I find funny that many people tell me that I should try a TV game (I'm french, its name is "Questions pour un champion" (I could translate, but I think the idea is clear (basically, it's a game when the best ones are the ones who have great cultural knowledge, and are fast too)) but, I always tell them I would suck, because,I'm not interested in many areas, even if I know loads about others.
Funny that my childhood memories involves more the contents in protein lipid and carbohydrates of food, than people I met in school; in fact memories associated with things help me remember memories about people.

It's a lot easier to remember hard facts, than abstract things such as childhood memories. For Aspies, anyway.

I can remember specific facts of my childhood but there is so much I don't remember, and mind you, I never even realize it until someone says, "Remember when..." and I just don't.

Oh well, there was so much I'd just rather not bother to recall.
