this is a spectrum wide trait,am have fibre optics, and other types of lights in room, they put am in a sort of trance and rocking,am always attracted to glittering, sparkling and glowing things, have wanted to turn bedroom into a sensory room for years, but never have the room for it.
there used to be a proper sensory room at the inst. am used to live at,managers got rid of it to use as an occasional computer room for themselves when they have got a whole floor of rooms just for them already.

I have a halogen star projector that project hundreds of stars, planets and constellations (and their names) on my bedroom walls and ceilings, as they rise above a realistic 360-degree city skyline.
I bought it at National Geographic its one of my favorite possessions

My son has some shiny spiderman shoes right now, but claims it isn't "enough", lol. He says he wants to look like a robot-metallic.

Thanks for the suggestions for him :) Will have to keep an eye out and get his input on some of these ideas for sure.

As for me, I'm 27 and still like glow in the dark stuff and anything that lights up for the most part. I also noticed I tend to wait through stop lights sometimes just because the red light is flashing (at night).

Me too. Lava lamps, neon signs (when there is not too much contrast), glowing stuff rules!!

And patterns like a nice piece of wood or stone.

I can't see them anymore, but when I still had more vision than I do now, I was drawn to shiny things as well. I used to run over to everyone who happened to have shiny jewelry and touch ehte dewelry.

Well, don't. Other people spend (extra) money on designer versions of their household tools, stuff made from more expensive materials, collectors cd's and dvd's etc... You have a budget and you only 'obligation' is to spend it in a way that maximizes the quality of your life.

My son and I both love shiny stuff...and if it's shiny and has lights watch out.

My Christmas tree last year reflecting the sun....wish I could leave it up all year long.

you could do:)

Our Halloween decorations go up as soon after school begin as as possible and then the day after Halloween those come down and we are putting up all the lights, trees and all things shiny for Christmas!

So this is a good 4 month stretch in our house and while you may think others would have an opinion of this, I have always found people to enjoy it!

I love sparkly, glittery Xmas trees! I can still remember trees from my childhood, sitting in the corner and shiny with promise!

Wow, thanks Zwerf, and everyone else who replied so far. I didn't think I'd get so many responses on this issue  .
BTW, I'ts Talk Like a Pirate Day, another bunch of weird people who love shiny things! YARRR! 8)
Anyway, it's wonderful to hear from so many people. I just had to pick up three more pop tops from the sidewalk this morning, and a decent bit of red reflector glass that someone had lost from a late night car crash. I wish sometimes I didn't HAVE to pick up everything shiny, I'm sure I'll get cooties someday from that.

I'm sort of that way, but not with reflective shiny stuff, but more with things that emit light. I love the look of a rack of electronic equipment in a dimly lit room. All the indicator lights and display screens flashing and blinking are really nice to look at and totally intriguing. It's perhaps the reason why I got started with my obsession with audiovisual equipment anyways.

Along with this intrigue comes my fascination with LED lighting. The colors of LED's is very pure. LED's sparkle and look absloutely beautiful. I have my house decorated with LED lighting in random arrays around the ceiling and walls down the hallway. It sort of looks like one is walking down the corridor of a spacecraft or something. I'd post a picture of it, but its a bit too dim to get an accurate picture with a digital camera, and the amazing colors really don't turn out that good. Because the LED's use very little power, they stay on 24-7

I love these things, too. There's something special and exciting about electronic lights winking and flashing. It must look really neat, your house. I wish I could see that effect that you describe.

During my short time working for the bank (boy did THAT ever bomb...) I just loved when we got a shipment of shiny never-before-used coins! The pennies, nickels and dollar coins all sparkling and pure silver, gold and copper!

If money STAYED that way, I'd hoard it! :)

I agree. Used money often looks so grody that I don't want to touch it.
