Just wanted to say that as long as she knows you love her and are supportive of her she'll at least have the "cloak of her mothers love" to ward off "the chilly winds of the NT world" that shes gonna have to navigate thru. Let her know you love her "Just the way she is" and aren't ashamed of her in any way. How old is she?
I hope that you are getting this. i'm not sure how to respond. She is 17 and home schooling herself. plus takes 2 college courses. People make fun of her all the time, usually teens that are just plain brats. Thanks for the words of wisdom. She does know that we love jer, but sometimes I'm not as patient as I need to be.
******WHOA******! She gets to homeschool HERSELF?????? ********LUCKY*******! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !
She is really intelligent!! Way above me. I'm only an NT, so I don't have the smarts she has. She also has a photographic memory. thats helps for tests.
Oh, ok... Sorry I downplayed how lucky she is! And ****WHY**** did you send her to be diagnosed? I mean you OBVIOUSLY respect her, she is intelligent, learns well, doesn't have much of a chance to show social problems. As I said, she is LUCKY!
She has a job and has trouble with the girls (teens) that work with her. they make fun of her all the time. I had to pull her out of her highschool because she was in a huge depression!! She is much better now, but likes the 2 courses she takes at college. She had run in with a guy in her class , so hopefully that gets worked out. I have not officially had her diagosed, but the lady that has seen her in the group that she recently began going to says she FOR SURE has it. After reading all the books and web sites and this board, I am soooo sure she has it. I just want to feel comfortable when she has to go out on her own, and to be able to get along with people. It breaks my heart that she is made fun of soo much, by these bratty mean girls.
It sounds like she IS AS! SOME other symptoms that are Commonly associated?
1. Average to high IQ.
2. Advanced vocabulary
3. Often speaks unusually well prior to 2-3 years of age.
4. Doesn't have any real cognitive deficits other than social.
5. Has social deficits.
6. May show hyper or hyposensitivity to temperature, light, sound, touch, etc...
7. May figit a lot(pace, bounce legs, squirm in chair, etc...)
8. May take things literally.
9. very logical.
People that know me would probably agree I fit all of the above. I was talking well by like 9-10 months and have a pretty high IQ. I don't take things QUITE so literally anymore. I am hyposensitive to cold, and hypersensitive to light, sound, touch, heat. As for logical, I deal with computers and am considered pretty good. I've held back on my vocabulary for over 30 years, but understand much more than I say.
I'm sorry to hear she is having such problems. The job I am in is one where people generally tell me the type of thing they need and/or give me parts, and I just give it to them after I build it. On a good day, **I** design everything and t is almost like I am not there. The next thing they know, it is DONE, and I get paid well for it.

Everything on the list is my daughter. Did you walk on your tip toes? She did till about 4th grade. My other 2 did also, but show no signs of AS. She HATES the sun, and hates to look people in the eyes, so she looks at their mouth so they think she is looking at the eyes. She says that when she looks in their eyes, she can't understand a word they say. Its just blah blah blah. do you feel that way too? I wish she could find ajob like yours. when she works alone, she does soooo well.

Well, I DO often put wait on the ball of my foot. To come to think of it, in the first grade they pushed me to run on my heel. Of course, that is one thing I didn't list that IS common.

Well HEY I, and your daughter and most others here for that matter, didn't fit any autistic diagnosis until is was broadend. Who knows about your other 2. Maybe they just aren't affected as much.

I am 100% like that! I CAN understand most without looking at the mouth, but it DOES help if they mumble or have a bad accent.

She very well could. My job isn't one many get at 17, while they are in high school, but she could get it a bit later. Of course, there are probably lots of other types of jobs where she could be autonomous and make a lot of money. But MAN I wish I was that lucky. And she has SIBLINGS! It sounds like she has at least most of the good things, and probably few of the bad and the fact that she is female and has siblings will help to mitigate most of the bad. I suppose she is pretty too. Some kids have all the luck.
You know, I found out recently that one reason I never had siblings was because my mother was told to not have another kid because I was so large.
