I think it goes with the territory - - autism as a rule dictates a certain aloofness, separate and alone from the world *out there*. My guess it's some kind of built in mechanism for the observers amongst us - just like there are farmers and hunters, there are observers - and that's us. And it's perfectly ok to be whoever we are and designed to become. Which I believe is something really great and cool.

I feel most alone when I'm with my friends. It's not usually a problem when I'm only with one or two of them, but when we're a group of more people all I can do is just sit there and listen to them going on about something and I want to participate, bit I have no idea what to say. That's when I feel so lonely that it hurts almost physically.
