I am that way too.. If I have not fall asleep at midnight I have difficulties with sleeping until at least 04:00 am, but mostly it is about 06:00 am before I really can relax. And I do most creative things at night. This is even when I can suddenly beginning to think about cleaning the house 8O . I think it is because no one expects me to clean the house during nights and no one disturbs me..

No wonder it was hard in school

yeah, it seems when the pressure is on to be able to think clearly and productively, it never happens. When by myself, it doesn't matter what I think up-it's all a good idea to me, lol, because there are no expectations at all... after a day of trying to figure out what everyone is asking of me, or is wanting me to do, etc., it takes a long time to wind down and a lot of reflecting before much more real thought comes into play. The whole evening is almost a blur to me from the time I get home from classes until the time I decide to lay down.

You describe exactly how I am nobodyzdream... it's like I can only think properly and have my brain work when there is no pressure... then I think up my best ideas. Especially about what I should do socially...

When the pressure is on, someone is standing there expecting an answer... I can't think I just fumble through words and hope my meaning is understood.

There's a reason why I want to be casual pretty much all the time, it's truly when I am at my peak...

10pm-2am, generally, although right now I'm so exhausted by having to get up at 6 in the morning that I don't think my brain works well at any time. As I age it feels like my body clock is getting to its peak earlier, though.
Bear in mind, since I know a lot of people posting here are teenagers, that teen brains (through to the early 20s) naturally have melatonin kick in late, so staying awake into the night is common for all teens, conversely operating in the early morning is next to impossible for most teenagers. That's why school starts early in the morning. It's the time teenagers are least likely to be able to learn what's put in front of them. I mean, there must be a reason it's then, right?

Actually, there's a reason for this. Most people tend to be more creative/have a freer flow of ideas when they are relaxing to go to sleep, or have just woken up. I don't know the scientific reason for this, but what I've read essentially says that the brain's "squelcher" which tends to tune out more extraneous thoughts is less active when you are relaxed and sleepy like that. I've had similar experiences, where I'm just getting ready to go to sleep, when suddenly I'm deluged with a bunch of ideas about a paper topic I'd been working on with no success the day before.
