I lost friends probably because of Aspergers, not because they knew I had it (I believe that if they knew I had it, they'd be more accepting, but I never told them, having never known I had it myself at the time), but because I missed their social cues and didn't understand them. But then I realized that maybe because they weren't willing to accept me for who I was, regardless of how they found out about my Aspergers that they might not have been the ideal friends for me anyways. It's not really a big loss to me. You find some people who are ideal friends, and sometimes, you don't. I've always had a bad impression of NT people, and pretty much ignored and neglected their world because it was uninteresting to me, and unenlightening. So I surrounded myself with Legos, video games, other puzzles, drawings, and other activities that could be achieved by oneself that usually makes use of the brain--I was really drawn to that. All of this could be attributed to Aspergers, and people might have thought me strange or nerdy because of that--badly, I'm not sure, but for my parents (and to the envy of probably a few other parents/friends of my parents) it meant not having to yell at me to do my homework. I think that's probably what caused them to overlook my Aspergers. I simply wouldn't cause trouble for them if I was doing my homework or not inviting friends over and having them worry about using up space in the house, etc.I also got picked on a few times in elementary school for being wierd. But the suffering I got from them was limited because I believed they were all just a bunch of morons who couldn't even do math--in fact, they probably hated it, while I enjoyed it, so I considered myself better than them. I know it seems kind of arrogant, but it got me through that period of time. During high school, they stopped picking on me because they started being more interested in making friends with other people, and the school was so big that it didn't matter what I was doing anymore.

I dont think I can say I was treated badly because of my AS, I was bullied until high school but I was never insulted or bullied specifically for having aspergers. I was bullied for everything that comes with AS, but not the AS itself, so can you say thats the same thing?

I agree. Only once when I told someone that I am AS I got a social snub. But for years and years my goofy body language and facial expressions have gotten me bullied and picked on and yes. . .reviled! But I agree, they didn't necessarily know I was AS, they just were trying to boot out the black sheep so their comfort level would rise.

Everyone takes one look at me and assumes that I'm a brain-dead, drooling mongoloid, whether they know I have AS or not. (And before you ask, I don't drool, walk funny or make stupid noises.)

People who knew I had AS would constantly play mind games with me (pretending to be nice one day, turning nasty on me the next, then pretend to be nice again, well you get the idea.), they would try to make me believe really stupid things, like when I told a group of people I don't believe in father christmas, they told me he was real and that they had seen him, and they seriously expected me to belive them.

My Mum hates it. But at school, its much better because disabilities are not discriminated against by anyone, not even the pupils. I am lucky to go to a high-performing private school full of nerds :)

I am not formally diagnosed, but in school, I was bullied by certain people because I was different. Many of these people later turned out to be general menaces to society, so I really don't think about them anymore.

I am treated well by my parents and am especially close to my mom. I am treated well at work and have many friends on the Siamese site I go to. Although still a relative newcomer here (less than a year), I have made some friends.
