How did you react to your diagnosis?

* Did you seek help specifically for the aspergers, or was the diagnosis a result of consulting the doctor for something else?
* Who first mentioned the words "autism" and "aspergers"? You/parents or the doctor?
* If you were old enough to understand what that meant, how did you react? Were you surprised? Relieved? Scared? Pessimistic?
* How do you feel now about your diagnosis? Have your feelings changed over time?
* Is aspergers your "only" (pretty big only, I know) diagnosis, or have you been diagnosed with something else as well?

-I was about 10 years old when 1st diagnosed (yes, it was by a professional).

-I suppose I knew I was different. Before I got the AS diagnosis, I was misdiagnosed with Autism. But at the time I think I was too young to care.

-I didn't do a thing. It was my parents who...did something. I can't remember.

-I think the doctor did when he misdiagnosed me with autism.

-Not a question I can answer. I was too young.

-I like Asperger's. Because of that people have underestimated my capabilities on a number of occasions, and I have proven them wrong most of the time. That makes me feel like my life is worth something and that I can make a difference. Plus for some odd reason, I LOVE that AS stumps some college professors (based on an article I read a while back).

-I have a fair case of ADD. That and AS seems to combine for some pretty rough times in boring lecture classes.
