I don't think there's a person on EARTH who rocks to the sound of airplanes. I think every single human being on earth that can hear DESPISES the sound of roaring engines.

And no - this isn't an AS trait. It's a HUMAN BEING trait. All over the world you can hear the ARGGGHHHHHHHHHH's of people everywhere every time a plane (damn you!) passes over head and invades their space - and harshes their mellow.

it's not part of being human, part of the noise problems in AS and autism is processing as well as the noise and pitch level itself, and many without these problems can go about their day without having their sensory system attacked, and are able to filter out these noises, whereas there are those who cannot.
in the lake district for example, the raf fly their ear torturing jets very low through parts of it,people flock to these places to stand under them.

Every single person I know has an aversion to the sound of roaring plane engines. Nobody I know ever said: *I absolutely love the sound*. Not one. BUT - there are those that have said - *It doesn't bother me any more - but in the beginning it did. Now I'm used to it. * The ASPIES however all said - it screwed with them from the get-go in a bad way, to the point where they got heart paltpitations and high anxiety. And so - yeah. I concur.

I do tend to agree with you. If I might, I would point out one small thing.
Not so much an AS thing, but more of us have this (imo) then know.
Probably not in this form. PTSD
There are more older vets now in the VA care from my era then there has been in a very long time.
I'm not the only one that this brings back horrible memory's. In my case it's different from combat vets.
Not all that have been in combat think of those noises in a soothing manner.
It brings it all back, that I have in common with them.

As ironic as this is, I was in Air Defense. Missiles and Gatling guns.

So to iceb, if you think WW2 anti aircraft weapons are cool. I'll put up a link for a better toy.
Ignore the tin foil hat on the first part of it, I think they were teaching it to shoot down missiles.
If you listen carefully you'll hear little pops, those are HE's going off. It has a name, poke it.
It's louder then you think, I don't hear so hot anymore. But the sound is accurate, very unique.
It can empty a drum of 1000 rounds in a little under 20 seconds. 20mm

Vulcan Shoot some down for me.

I was on the summit of this mountain in the adirondacks and a plane flu overhead, planes dont bother me, the rumble was much louder as I was a few 1000 feet closer to it then at ground level. That was incredible, unforgettable experience.

I cant stand motercycles however, those are horrid.

they're closer - so it's more intense. Lawn mowers also are very bad, together with their gas smells....

I don't mind the sound of planes flying overhead. What I don't like is the high pitched whining sound that jets create when the pilot revs the engines during taxi. That sound nauseates me and gives me a headache. That high pitched noise usually gets replaced by a more tolerable rushing sound once the plane is in the air though.

It only bugs me when I'm trying to sleep. I live near a military airforce base currently so a lot of planes and helicopters are flying overhead ((in fact one is right now)).

I hate being woken up to loud annoying noises....

There used to be a plane over my house once every half an hour (I timed it), but they changed the flight paths luckily, and now there are none. I like my area to be as quiet as possible. Birds tweeting and a breeze are the loudest noises I can take at home when working.

Then how about this? (be sure to turn the volume right up.) As to me that is pure music to me and always has me break out into a great big grin. :D

So as you can clearly see, I am not one to dislike the sound of aircraft. If anything, I do like it.... perhaps that is because I know what it means and how they work?

Is it just this sort of noise that those of you who don't like it have a strong distate of?

If I am sitting somewhere and see a plane in the distance and then hear it, no problem. But when it is close, loud, and I am not sure where it is, it provokes anxiety.
