As for visual artists, those who have (postmortem) been suspected of being spectrumites are:

*Andy Warhol
*Van Gogh
*Jack B. Yeats (brother of William)
*L.S. Lowry

I know there's more.

Satoshi Tajiri has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.
Considering him an artist seems something of a stretch, but what he created I suppose could still count.

Gary Numan... That explains a lot! I was mad on him when I was about 15, loved the morbid lyrics of the first Tubeway Army album and even dressed like him and painted my nails and dyed my hair to match. A severe case of hero-worship I think! I had no idea that I was AS at the time, so this thread is a wonderful eye-opener.

As for me... I used to be a theatrical lighting designer. Now I work in DTP/design and am a semi-professional photographer. I am not a 'name', but this information might help you with the ASD/artistic link that you may be looking for.

I am laughing now because for years I was embarrassed at the fact that I wanted to be Gary Numan. Goodness knows what my mother must have thought!
