We've always done it in Denmark. I think it's annoying. Instead of everyone turning their clocks back and forth, those who absolutely had to get up with the sun could, you know, just get up earlier?

It bothers me that everyone else have such an obsession with sunlight. Would the world go under if everyone stayed up after dark? We're human beings, we don't need a fiery circle in the sky to order us about.

It was originally done for planting, as I understand it. HECK, EVERYONE does basically the same thing everytime. I mean, by your reasoning, we shouldn't even have timezones!

BTW as for being in denmark, BE HAPPY! HERE, everyone has to PAY for a spot to park their cars in various areas. The reasoning is to limit time to be fair to everyone.

In DENMARK, at least in some areas, they do the same thing in reverse! A dial on the CAR says when they parked, and they get a ticket if they leave late! I like THAT method better!

From the blog at work:

Reminder: Per BYT/TC
Reminder to change your clocks back an hour before bed on Saturday. If you are late to work on Sunday it will be LWOP per BYT!

If you forget to fall back, you’ll get to work an hour too early.

I wonder if she’ll let you go home early.

and if you move your clock an hour forward, you’ll get to work two hours too early! There, I’ve done it!! ! I’ve used “to,” “two” and “too” all in the same sentence!

My three feline alarm clocks wake me up at 4 a.m., DST or not.

FWIW, the Philippines, dabbled with DST for a while but never adopted it. I was in high-school at the time. Japan also has no DST.

Have been living here (US) for just a year, and DST is already confusing me.

I've been living here my whole life and it's still confusing. :) Last night my Mom and I were discussing whether this meant I would have to be waking up earlier than usual or later and pretty soon we had both confused each other so much neither of us could figure out who was right (It turns out she was though, an hour more sleep).

I still don't know why we had to change the date. My computer automatically re-set the time, and I had to set it back and then change it 4 days later. And all the other clocks, as well. ARGH!

Computers can automagically set their own times.
But the hassle lies in the other "un-smart" appliances, ie oven, coffee maker, microwave, even my wristwatch!

[semi-interesting factoid:] Prior to 1883 in the US, every community kept their own local solar time. The advent of train travel complicated this; conductors would shout out the local solar time at each stop, usually kept by a clock on a church steeple, or timepiece in the window of a jewelry store. Folks who *really* wanted to have the correct local time had to change their watch by one minute for every 12 miles traveled in an easterly or westerly direction.

I'm obviously awaiting my guest-spot on Jeopardy.

Daylight saving time is ridiculous. It's just another of the many stupid things that people have got used to. It serves absolutely no purpose.

It used to be in October in the USA, too, until this year.

A: You mean now?
