One wonders about one's capabilities to be fair and unbiased when one *zooms* way, way in on trivial matters.

I wonder the same thing. It's interesting how ASD affects one's perceptions of the world around them, including the behavior of others. NTs of course see life through a subjective lens as well, but there are patterns to be observed among different populations.

My original post in this thread refers to matters of the natural world, the sciences, and other special interests--not interpersonal drama. :) .

I could use a good case of comfortably numb right now.

I find I always try to recapture that state when I am too stressed. It's depressurizing for the senses to occasionally be comfortably numb. It's easier to NOT think about anything at all when you are completely overstimulated. There is a comfort in being numb sometimes.

For millions of years mankind lived just like the animals
Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination
We learned to talk

There's a silence surrounding me
I can't seem to think straight
I'll sit in the corner
No one can bother me
I think I should speak now ___________ Why won't you talk to me
I can't seem to speak now ____________ You never talk to me
My words won't come out right ________ What are you thinking
I feel like I'm drowning _____________ What are you feeling
I'm feeling weak now _________________ Why won't you talk to me
But I can't show my weakness _________ You never talk to me
I sometimes wonder ___________________ What are you thinking
Where do we go from here _____________ What are you feeling

It doesn't have to be like this
All we need to do is make sure we keep talking

Why won't you talk to me _____________ I feel like I'm drowning
You never talk to me _________________ You know I can't breathe now
What are you thinking ________________ We're going nowhere
What are you feeling _________________ We're going nowhere

Why won't you talk to me
You never talk to me
What are you thinking
Where do we go from here

Heh... sweet Floyd man! I used to listen to them all the time. Even attempted to obtain tickets to a Roger Waters concert in Buffalo a while back, however the ticks wer expencive, id have to miss work and cant stand huge crowds, tho I wonder if it woulda been worth it. I knew others who did end up going and I suppose now that I think about it I should be ashaimed that I did not go with them.

I wonder if that song contained Stephen Hawkings voice? Sounds like him.

MadDuck:

When I don't have medication, I'm anything but comfortably numb. I'm seething. Maybe I misinterpreted what everyone meant, but being comfortably numb usually takes some chemical help. At least for me it used to. Now I just take my meds and I'm usually fine......I mean, I can function. They don't make me numb, comfortably or otherwise. They calm down the inner anger. I'm sure I'm not any less Aspi, but I don't worry about it so much. But I don't call that comfortably numb. It sounds more like you're talking about being in shock! I don't think that's too comfortable either. I don't know. Maybe I'm way off base.

This song been with me a long time. Waters ays he was inspired by a real life version of the movie scene, where he melted-down and drugged-up in his trashed hotel room, only to be loaded up with new drugs by his manager who needed him out on the stage. Can't familiarize with the drugs one bit, but the experience of receding to your own four-walled exile is as numbing and comfortable as he says.
