Now, there is an interesting side note. I have no problem what so ever keeping animated cartoons (drawn) characters straight! I can see the difference in them, hear their distinct character and feel the personality of each.

But humans, by and large, are mostly a continual blur of the same features, voices and personas.

Merle
who has had people get up and move away from me in the movies because I heckle, I laugh when no one else laughs and in movies like "The Mummy Returns" when they said the supposedly profound line that a pyrimid was like a family because it had THREE SIDES. . .well, you can imagine my guffaws caused problems.

Sometimes I have problems. Mostly like people have said, when the faces are so similar.

Which makes me laugh, because back in Uni I liked movies by Bunuel. In one, just to confuse the audience, he had two actresses playing the same part. In another one, the movie repeated itself, but from different viewpoints.

I also like "Twelve Monkeys" because of it's time tripping structure.

I can usually follow a movie alright so long as I dont miss anything, I need to watch and listen to the whole movie, otherwise I become lost.

Characters usually dont bother me, at least as far back as I can currently remember.

i can relate to this. Sometimes i have problems following the story and the implications. I think it is derived by the same problems that haunt aspies in real life. Sometimes you cant interpret subtle messages between character interactions, and somtimes this 'hidden' messages make up the boneback of the story, so a lot of times you dont understand why a characters feels compelled to do this or that. I think we are somewhat disabled to understand some movies fully. I guess that is why we like more sci fi movies or intelect driven movies.

I must say I very much enjoy your insight on some topics inparticular. That makes a ton of sence, I certainly enjoy moves where their is lots of action and no drama pretty much just because of all that (i think anyways).

Interesting thoery...

I struggle with many movies as well, especially those with lots of characters. I don't remember faces very well, even faces that are totally different may take some time for me to remember. Cartoons and animated movies (e.g. Shrek) are much easier for me as the characters are all distinct.

If the movie is about a subject of interest to me (Four Minutes, for example), I have no trouble following it. I don't have trouble following movies in general, but a lot of them bore me to death. Also, if they are too loud, I want to run out of the theater.

If the movie is related to such things as geology/science/documentaries about the natural sciences, then I don't have problems following those kinds of movies.

Romance and social-situation types of movies, on the other hand, get me totally lost and confused. Maybe that's the reason I don't go out to the movies all that often, or rent them.

Most ensemble movies I have trouble following.
But if a movie has a central issue, {take Syriana for example} then I can follow it more easily.

No problems following. Though sometimes I get really caught up into the film. Kinda like I am there. Which is rather intense though depressing if its a drama.

depends... and i cant figure out on what factors...

over all, id say no...

but even with TV series, like Sopranos (specifically comes to mind).... i cant follow plots cause i never can keep up with who does what and why they're mad... and i think that has mostly to do with them always talking on cellphones.... or talking about people not there (all secret-like)... cause i recognize faces... just never names to put to faces.

that's just an example though... but i do have issues with movies over similar matters.

Sometimes I have trouble following, and I'm usually the last one to figure out where it's heading--- but I can usually count on understanding it by the halfway mark.
As for the actors--- i can recognize the real obvious ones, like Tom Cruise, Robert Deniro or Whoopi Goldberg. But other actors will seem like new people all the time to me--- especially if they change their hair or lose/gain weight. I don't really mind this, though.

Not well at all. I (and my mom, I'm sure) always assumed that as I got older I'd stop asking questions, but I still have a LOT of trouble with character recognition and following the plot. Not all movies, but then again I do prefer comedies/horror (probably because I have such a hard time keeping things straight with dramas).

I have difficulty following movies as well. When watching movies with other people I always am asking for clarrification with what is happening.

Usually if it's a movie worth watching, I have to watch it several times to fully grasp it. We're talking movies with actual brains here, not "Big Momma's House 2".
