Ever talk excessively about these interests and then the person walks away? I've had that happen before. That's something though, that despite having a good attitude, I have trouble with. I get offended to the very core when someone is not appreciating my interest in (insert interest here).

I haven't had that happen because usually I don't talk about my interests much because I know other people are not as interested as I am. Sometimes I talk to people and then get the feeling that I'm saying too much so I'll stop and then there will be an embarrassing silence. I have a social phobia though so I don't speak to many people outside my family and health care professionals.

Oh yes.
1. When I was working for a woman and she was pregnant and I made a wrong quip about the baby being due on Friday 13th. I was very nervous that day, the next thing I said was it must be awful having to mix with a lot of women you have nothing in common with other than motherhood and babies. Her reply was " I think its nice to be with other Mums". Oops I did not get anymore prop making commissions after that. It haunts me a little. Think before you speak.

2. I have a friend this old guy with a past. He said the money he had been waiting for was almost through. I tried to show interest and said "the money you have been waiting for for AGES" with lots of emphasis on "ages". Does not sound that bad but believe me he was not amused he thought I was being sarcastic and jumped down my throat. I was pretty scared, did he have a revolver?!

There are probably hundreds more. Worse than these.

Ouch, reading all that was tough, only cause I screwed up plenty of times and almost felt exatcly as I did when I messed up reading the posts, hahaha.

I have gotton much better, when I am out in pubic I usually feel pretty confident that I wont mess up, but used to all the time. Well... I dont think their would have been anyfun socializing if I had not screwed up from time to time, it puts a smile on my face that night when im lying in bed thinking of what just happened, just thinking about the other person sittin their going 'WTF?' after I walked away all ashaimed. hehehe

Yeah, like yesterday when I was asked if I saw anything after finding out there was a change, and just the NUMERICAL permutations were about 4,398,046,511,104! Like I am REALLY going to try a possible 4 TRILLION permutations when it is more likely the system emrely crashed!

Not anymore... I go to college where there's only one other person who went to high school with me, and he has his own list of faux pas (and he lives on campus whereas I don't, so I hold the upper hand there)

Yes! And the worst part is that if I make one faux pas with somebody, I'm so nervous around them aftewards that I'm more likely to make another...This happened at my summer job last year; my co-workers must have found me weirder and weirder as the weeks went by.

Wow, just thinking about it like 5 months later, I feel embarrassed all over again! LOL

Definitely. I tend to overanalyze past situations so much, that when a similar one comes up I think about all the things that I did wrong the first time...which only leads to more mistakes!

Yes I do recall the faux pas's I have committed more than the fun or elation I have had in social situations . However , if I think for a moment I can find many pleasant memories too . After reading this thread I find it interesting that we seem to suffer from selective memory recall . Wife says I have selective hearing too ... <mental note> gotta keep her out of the office while I post in these forums . This more greatly affected me prior to my realization that I have AS symptoms . Now I realize its just part of my neural hardwiring and I can deal with the dread that often accompanies meeting strangers .
Insignificant memories weighing you down ? Surely you can recall some small personal triumph to dispel the negative memories . Well , thats how I deal with it anyway . Some strangers were actually fun to meet (at least the ones who laugh WITH me at an awkward moment are ).

The memories eat me alive. Sometimes I find it hard to function because the thoughts of the things I've screwed up exhaust me mentally. It's really hard for me to not dwell on these situations.

When I think of some of the things I said and did, and how I acted with past obsessions, I get really embarrassed.
