Thats not in the DSM. Social behaviour is.

From the DSM

Quote:
A. Qualitative impairment in social interaction,

That doesn't seem to say "no social skills". Perhaps I misread it?

So it really says "no social skills".
Nope. YOU have some sort of weird reading disorder.

But lack of social skills IS part of the diagnosis

That doesn't mean that we can't learn them. Judging from DataSage’s Alpha Male Guide to Meeting Women, DataSage probably has better social skills than most NTs.

Theory and practise are entirely different in regard to this matter.
Anyone can read Mystery Method - go out and try doing it.

If what he says is true, and that he actually does get the opposite sex to be interested in him, then he does have social skills, even though it's intellectually rather than intuitively. Why would he make a thread (which by the way got stickied) just to lie?

its not a lie.
all im saying is there is a difference between knowing the theory and putting it into practise.
a big difference, i know the theory and i have attempted to put it into practise ( for over a decade)
being autistic is not a help.

If Autism and Asperger's Syndrome are neurological conditions with impairment in social skills to me it would mean we have to make a conscious effort doing what might come naturally to NTs. But it does not mean we cannot learn them. I have noticed my social skills have gradually gotten better over time.

you cannot learn 'multi-tasking' if your brain is not wired to do so.

likewise....impairment of and absense of are two different things.

My social skills have improved dramaticly since I was a kid...when I was completely oblivious to them...When I was a teenager, I joined a band, and my bandmates, on realising how much of a tactless clod, completely devoid of social skills I was....sorta taught me....it was tough to learn, because I am sensitive to criticism and truely did not know I was doing anything wrong. I would get told and chewed out for awful things I did...that I was completely unaware of....gradually some of that stuff sunk in.

How good my skills are now depends on the definition.
I will hold the door open for people. I don't smoke, but if I did, i would not leave my cig butts in the sink....I understand common courtesy...I know some NTs who don't pay attention to that kinda stuff...I can be very hospitable at times....sometimes overly generous....and around some people I totally freeze up..

It is the mysterious complicated subtle weird kind of social maneuvering that I just don't get...or don't ever seem to be privy to.

I have my own version of the basic rudiments of social skills down....i think....

I think my social skills have vastly improved, although I don't do small talk well and can't talk on and on about nothing. I like to talk about books I'm reading, politics or even my pets. Luckily, I work in a pet-friendly place where I can talk about my cats and dog all I want.

Through practice, I am willing to claim my social skills have gotten alot better and I'm quite liked (almost solely by older people though). Maybe the main reason I often question my ASness. However, everyone around me still seems to be more skilled than me. I also still hate small talk.

The way I deal with social situations is that I see them as a puzzle, game of a sort. You learn what happens from each 'button' and what thing leads to another. I don't have a problem with the eye-contact thing. I have a fast automatical reaction to turn away if a stranger glances at me, but when in a conversation and/or am atleast reasonably confident, I'm quite naturally paying alot attention to certain areas of the other person's face, giving them the comprehension I'm looking into their eyes. In some cases I even get stuck in their eyes. But that's not good, no? After some time of watching their face I do usually get tired of it and my eyes start wandering so it's not foolproof. Can't look into the eyes while thinking either.
