I question things because I attempt to understand them. If I don't understand them, it doesn't make sense to me, and I see no real reason in doing it. I believe that I must be doing something for a reason, otherwise it will be illogical and possibly a waste of time. That's probably why people think it's strange when I ask them why about certain things they take for granted and expect everyone to either not question it or already know the answer. It would probably be like trying to explain why 1+1=2 to someone else, which is probably why they find it ridiculous, but Aspies don't normally know these things. It's not second nature to them.

I think part of it is also because I'm a curious person.

gets me in trouble too. I tend to hear a statement, and immediately think of 3 or 4 different ways to take care of it. Trying to clarify it drives them mad...;)

The first half the first page of this thread was pretty much my life when I socialized more. My facial expressions and eternal (infernal?) questions actually made people think I was arguing, looking for a fight. I thought (and still do think) that people talked for fun. Like you talk about a subject to get to know the subject better. Most NTs are looking to validate each other.
Like, I'm fairly leftist but I read about stuff from a variety of sources: The Nation, Liberty, the papers, the radio and books. A lot of people will only read according to their party politics. Both Left and Right. They are afraid of being corrupted or hurt, I guess. So, you can't really talk politics with people unless you want to "preach to the choir".
I remember going round and round about Fahrenheit 9/11 with a "friend". I said it was a terrible movie and was really upset about it. I pointed out the flaws and my friend finally said that it wasn't made for "us" ("educated") but for those who never went to college.
I tried talking about it to other fellow Democrats and they would end the discussion, "Well, it's right".

I understand the Jewish tradition that questions and encourages debate (endless debate). I can't remember the name of it. So, I know that it's not thoroughly an NT flaw. Perhaps an NT "tendency" combined with Western simplicity?

Maybe you mean the Kabbalah?

However, I live in Israel and I keep my questioning to myself because it's highly inappropriate to question anything here.

no, it's an actual tradition of "talmudic disputation". I had to look it up. I read about it in stories and then saw it being referred to in http://www.heebmagazine.com . I have an old copy with a question about it.

I get the feeling that those of us who are blessed with the ability to see the little things, rather than the big picture, like to question those who do not. A lot of the work in films is done for box office numbers, or the fallback thought that if something British is changed to something American, the American market will get it better, like Constantine, or Band of Brothers. It is a shame, because accuracy would make me appreciate the film/show better, but I am a minority. The same thing goes for hair colour, skin colour, location, and all. But why, damnit, why?
