Probably not, I have athsma and although I try and stay in shape and avoid most triggers(except I still can't bring myself to give up my cat) I still have attacks, I also have epilepsy and have around 5 to 10 seizures a day if I am not on my meds( I can and have lived like that, but I was mostly asleep and very unproductive). I am happy for certain parts of modern medicine being available, but in some cases they seem to give medications for frivolous reasons.

I'm not medicated, I rarely take any rx meds, and I've never taken meds for my AS. I've been very surprised and rather disconcerted by the number of people on this forum who are on meds. In some cases (say, like 9CatMom's seizure meds) it's understandable, but it's more than that. It seems a lot of people are convinced they should be medicated, and it makes me wonder how legit it all is. I have never known HF autistics or Aspie in real life as medicated as some of the people around here claim to be, except in cases where the person was misdx'd and given the wrong meds (often to very bad results).

functioning level isn't really why people get medications as functioning mainly means how well they are able to live not how strong their autism or aspergers is.
but,it does seem that people are given medications too quick for autism or AS or comorbid traits,it could be due to mentality of some strictly medical model pyschiatrists who go through the same routine of assess>diagnose>prescribe meds-regardless of whether they need them or not, these pyschs trivialize what drugs are for and can put the person at unneccessary risk from their use, they should only really be used for when the traits are strong enough to be causing the person a poorer quality of life so benefit of use is stronger.

Am was thinking the same thing as Danielismyname posted,am do not take any drugs to stay alive so could technically live without them,it's more about whether the person would have a decent quality of life without them or not.

Am take Tegretol ret*d, propranolol and opiates [PRN]-all for trigeminal neuralgia, severe meltdowns, self injury and migraine.
because am take these only for accute problems,am would have a very poor quality of life without them.

I'm not currently on meds.

In the past I've had three major depressive episodes and been on anti-depressants and sleeping pills for 12 months or more, together with psychotherapy and cbt. I finally learnt to recognise the signs of an impending deep depression before it got out of hand, and how to deal with it, so when I had big life-changes a couple of years ago I was pleased I managed to cope without medical support.

I've never been medicated for anything AS-related (apart from depression) as I don't have a dx.

I agree with AspieMartian that going on meds is no substitute for behaviour therapy and learning coping strategies. Meds can help but there needs to be a change in behaviour, lifestyle and/or habitual thought patterns to enable mental health improvements. Sure, some people will always need some level of medication but I suspect there are plenty out there who wouldn't need to be on meds if they were able to manage their mental health more proactively.

I'm not on meds for anything AS-related. I do take medication occasionally for headches and back pain, but I could certainly live without it.

I survived without meds for most of my life, but I've noticed that with medication, I'm like a better version of myself. I like the other, medicated me more. :)

I hope so... I will when I know enough about life to know what to do... because I'll be happy... I'm a bit confused about this actually... I probably wouldn't if I went off it now... if I surived the withdrawal, eventually I would get shot, stabbed, raped and strangled, arrested, run over, disappeared, drafted, sold into slavery, or something fun like that.
