I like MELODIC, RHYTHMIC bells ringing - like when they play the choral bells at church.

What I do not like is RANDOM CLANGING, which is what most bell ringers I've encountered seem to do. It sounds more like they're hollering the train is about to leave the station, ALL ABOOOOOARD! than "hey, jingle jingle, how about giving a buck or two to charity?" to me.

Like my Aspie son's clapping - it's like random gunfire, and it makes me cringe and wince and want to dive for cover.

As a child I would flee in terror whenever the "this is a test of the national emergency system, this is ONLY a test" would come on the tv. I would literally run as fast as I could away from the tv, to a back room, and put pillows over my ears.

No, they don't drive me crazy. (Now maybe if i was standing outside for a long time and i wasn't the one ringing the bell, then maybe yes.) I love the bell ringers. My mom, sister, and I do it outside of one of the retail stores at home for Salvation Army, you know. I love doing it.

We don't have a problem with the bell ringer, but the bell ringing, that is random, spuratic.

I think it is great people give.
