Yes it could be a number of things, that are indirectly related.
There does seem to be something to the age bit though.

Mine was 31/32 when she had me, 42 when she died. I don't know about my 'father', since disappeared before I arrived (1964) and in those days, not many people did that.

My mother was 22 and my father 35 when I was born.

Just a few remarks [disclaimer] I am aware that it is impossible to create an elaborate poll[/disclaimer] :

Let's be logical; what could this poll indicate ?
- That an old "nest" is not the best ? But is the nest more important than the genes ?
- That an old ovum's genes may weaken the egg. But what about the sperm which brings half of the genes ?
- That ovum's age is the most important criterion ? How could we be sure as most of the time in natural conditions women reproduce with older men.

BTW, this is a very interesting topic that I am very eager to read about.

Here is a study that Baron Cohen is working on regarding prenatal testosterone levels.

http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/item/de ... &tid=10123

I can not find the article I had read before, but they were suggesting that testosterone levels are higher in older women, and this increased the likelyhood of autistic traits in the child.

This is all interesting but since my traits are very definably from my father's side of the family and my mom's side is as NT as you can get I wonder what dads contribution was to my being AS.

My mother is 44, and my father is 46. I'm 16, so my mother had me when she was 28, and my dad had me when he was about 28. This is rather odd; I've never noticed a relationship between the ages of parents to aspies born. This is quite an interesting thread.

I agree with you; I have lots of my dad's traits (more than my mom's I think). It is possible that I could have inherited Asperger's from my mom side, since my mom's cousin is severely autistic.

Yes. My mom is 56 years old, and I'm 19. I guess she was 35 when she had me. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I'm not good at Math. My dad is almost 60.

My mom was 23, which deflates the theory a bit. Might I add, AS is not all that is psychologically wrong with me by a long shot, and psychological problems aren't all that's wrong with me as far as fetal development, so that also chips at the "young egg" idea a bit.

Then again, my mom went on a roller coaster when she was pregnant with me.

((But if that did anything, honestly, we can't undo it and there would be a certain humor to it, especially since I have been on (like, out of utero) and absolutely love said coaster. Whicb is not to say it was a swift move.))

My parents were 43 now they're 59, I'm the youngest of four sister. Some people get confused when we go around together they think my parents are my grandparents, and my sisters look like mother and aunts...well, maybe it's because i look younger than 16.
Anyway I have a lot of traits from my father's side my mother seem quite NT( except for a few things)

maybe it is a bit complicated to understand...sorry for my bad english.

My mother was 38 (almost 39) when she had me. My father was 40. She will now be 63 in November. My father has passed on but he would have been 65 in December.

I am currently 24.

My mother was having problems with conception and had to go in to have treatments in order to conceive.

As for hormone levels, I have PCOS which, as a side effect, can cause me to have raised testosterone levels and I have always been fairly masculine for a female. I am lesbian and have Gender Identity Disorder as well. If in utero there was a higher level of male hormones, I have little doubt it caused the PCOS and more masculine personality characteristics and preferences. As for causing the Aspergers, I have hesitation. I'm not so wild about Baron-Cohen's research.

You need to add an option for under 20. My parents were both 19 when I was born, so they seem relatively young to me. My mom has always been more like an older sister, and my dad and I have daughters that are within 2 weeks of each other in age....and my sister has a son that's only a month younger than those two daughters!
