My bedtime at age 3 was around 8:00. But with my insomnia at the time, I'd still be lying awake, tossing and turning, bored out my mind, for at an hour or more. As a result, I viewed bedtime as some kind of a hazing ritual or a punishment for being a child, even though it's supposed to be good for my health. My parents knew I hated bedtime, so they let me stay up for New Year as a Christmas present. Interestingly, they always expected me to start getting sleepy around 10:00pm, but I always stayed wide awake at least until 1:00am, at which point, they'd say: "I think you've had enough celebrating."

I was a teenager when my parents woke me up in time for the ball to drop, the event is special for me now.
