Hmm...I think this is a difficult question. We relate to it on different levels.

Does AS define me? I don't know. It's definitely a huge part of who and what I am. It has shaped my personality and given me the uniqueness and wonderfulness that is me. It's an intregal part for sure.

On the other hand to spit on the PC people out there. I am not a person with Asperger's. I am truly and specifically an Asperger's kid. It is who I am and the reason that I am that person. There is not a separation from it.

Each of us is mosaic. Asperger's is simply a guide to where pieces of that mosaic may fit in certain people.

I guess 90% since I relate to most Aspie traits, I am not proud of it thought or ashamed, just the way things are.

asperger's is a fairly decent description of who I am, not vice-versa.

It describes many of my personality traits, but some of my personality traits heavily contradict the norm for Aspergers.

I actually feel pretty offended by the thought that it might 'define me'. I like to think there's a lot more to me than that. I certainly won't let it define my life.

It doesn't define me, just explains me.

Absolutely not. I've pretty much forgotten that I even have AS. I don't consider it a part of who I am at all because its symptoms are so unlike my personality. No one knows I have it and I've never told anyone but my best friends who have similar issues. It's in no way a part of who I am, and I'm happy that way.

It does for me. I am not sure how anyone can answer otherwise. If we didn't have AS we would be a completely different people. Different personality, different interests, different attitude.

This was what I originally stated, but someone else said something profound that I agree with. This person said it explains them. I agree with that. AS explains me, it does not define me.

+1

It's part of who I am, but only part of the overall picture.

It is an inseparable part of who I am. But there is more to me than just autism, and Asperger's isn't even the biggest part of who I am.

Many things have occurred in my life. Some have had real effect upon me. However, the armature upon which all of me is wound is AS. So I say yes.

No, it's definition fits me. As do some other definitions. But those definitions don't define me, they just label a part of me.

I don't even know what it does to me.
