Oh really? Can you explain this more or provide a link? Do you mean physically or mentally traumatic (by the inner/outer remark)?

Lesion is just a very general term for injury. Skin lesions (cancers, scars, etc.), brain lesions (tumors, MS, etc.), tooth lesions (cavities).

It seems logical that a mass formation such as scar tissue would be considered a lesion - it never occurred that doctors/scientists would use this terminology for growths/tumors as well. Rather bizarre.
