One also has to consider how much a particular country is "into" psychology and diagnosing its citizens.

The US and Europe I believe have always been more interested in psychology than the rest of the world. One should take that into account as well.

There are quite a few black people with Autism that I know of, if that's relevant to the point at all.

I think most are unseen by the doctors (who are white) who write it off as being part of "normal" black behavior. That was more true in the past, but nowdays some doctors are afraid of misdx'ing by taking what they consider "normal" behavior and seeing it as abnormal.

If the theory that Asperger's comes from Neanderthals is true then it should be expected to have some blacks with it because there has been racial mixing throughout history, particularly in countries like the United States.

And PaulB, why do you assume that supporting the Neanderthal theory makes someone a racist or a fascist? I for one do not care about skin color and I don't think there are many here that do. What seperates us from NTs is not race, it is our minds. I hope you'll reconsider leaving here... :(

OK, for this theory to be true, there would have to be a higher incidence of AS in people of European decent. Anyone have information on that?

Also for this to be true, there should be zero incidence of Asperger's in those of Asian, or Austrailian Aboriginal decent.

I'm not entirely sure thats true - the cross-breeding would've occured before the far east and australia were colonised by early humans wouldn't it?

Quote:
Using the mitocondrial DNA evidence used before, someone stated that it is possible that only male Neanderthals mated with Female Cro-Magnons. Actually, there are four posibilities:

1) There was no mating between the species. (Acepted theory)
2) Only Males of one species mated with females of the other. (Possible, but unlikely)
3) Interspecies mating did not produces offspring. (Possible, but unlikely)
4) Interspecies mating produced offspring that were sterile. (Actually most likely scenario)

A fifth possibility is that only the offspring of a male neanderthal and a female human survived in great numbers. This isn't that far fetched - look at the difference between Ligers and Tions for example. Ligers would probably have more chance of surviving in the wild.

Quote:
I don't know why we are all so big into trying to prove that we are not human. Maybe it would comfort some of us, and lead others to select a mate based on species survival. But that smacks of eugenics and fascism. Unfortunately I am seeing more and more fascist aspies out there. I'm trying to make a difference, trying to teach people tolerance in both directions. But these younger people don't want to tolerate. They just want to differentiate. It makes me sad to see that this is our future. These kids always say "but they treat us this way, so we treat them the same way." A life for a life and a truth for a truth. Nothing but hatred comes about from this.

I'm not a fascist simply because I respond to the hatred poured on me by society. You seem to be living in a fantasy world regarding NTs. Do you remember an aspie got 8 years for vandalising cars, despite the fact that the court acknowledged he had basically been tagging along with some people who hadn't been court? The jury was composed of NTs, and they reacted to the defendant the only way they knew how. For comparison, 3 US Marines only got 7 years for abducting and raping a 12 year old girl.

Quote:
We're Aspies. We should be good at thinking logically. Yet you still keep using this same faulty logic, even though you should know better. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall. You keep saying that you want tolerance from NTs. That's not going to happen if you don't show tolerance toward them. Yet you keep expecting them to make the first move. They are the dominate ones in the situation, they don't have to make the first move.

One thing that really drove this home to me was PhoenixKitten's new avatar. The one that basically says "There is no cure for autism, so if you want to be cured go kill yourself." I think that this spirit is just as bad as those who try to sell the bogus cures, or the rabid mothers who want to use these cures. Nobody wants to listen to reason. And this is just sad, because we of all people should love to listen to reason.

Having a sense of identity, and not being ashamed of who we are because people, who are for the most part mentally inferior, think we should be is not being unreasonable. If you are truly rational you should realise that NTs as a population will NEVER show us tolerance, because they are not capable of it.

Quote:
I came here for help. And I did find some help. But now we are no longer about helping each other and more about protesting finding a cure (protest all you want, they're not going to find one). All we care about is the division between AS and NT. All we care about is Us versus Them, Celtic/European versus the rest of the world, aren't we so much better than the NTs, aren't our European ancestors so much better than the Africans. This hate-filled atmosphere is the polar opposite of anything that is conducive to helping or healing.

I am sure that many of you will celebrate this post. This is my last post here. Goodbye.

This is not about racism. This is simply about trying to figure out why we are the way we are. That is a perfectly valid question.

I just found the page mentioned in the first post of this thread today. I am printing it out at this very moment to show it to my doctor. I find it very interesting, as it seems to explain certain things that I have felt, desired, done, or experienced in my life. I will spare you all of the details for now.

I watched a documentary on the Romans once. I forget the details, but as they spread into Western Europe, it was reported that they basically performed genecide on certain groups of people that they considered barbarians, who would not accept the Roman social rules and lifestyle and chose to live in primitve shelters and caves. When watching a special on Neanderthals, they showed archeological evidence of Neanderthal populations in the same areas that the other documentary had said the Romans wiped out those "barbarians." My first thought upon seeing that was "the Romans wiped out the Neanderthals." I am not saying this to debate the timeline of the Neanderthals, or the possibility of Neanderthal descendants, but I do find it interesting and have not ruled it out as a possibility in my my own mind.

Asperger's syndrome became a diagnostic category in the United Kingdom before it was added to the International Classification of Diseases' Classification of Mental and Behavioral Disorders in 1992 and to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1994. A British researcher named Lorna Wing who reviewed Hans Asperger's case studies on what he called autistic psychopathy to formulate the modern taxon of AS. What was being diagnosed as Asperger's syndrome in Great Britain in the 1980s and early 1990s would have been diagnosed as pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), some other disorder (ADHD, OCD, etc.), or nothing at all.

Its to bad that Paul B does not posted anymore many of his ideas on this thread are right on.

We all need to tolerant and teach tolerance too.

If we are just trying differentiate ourselves from the world we well get no where.

If we just care about the divisions:AS's or NT's, Us versus Them, we well get no where too.

Just a thought.

People of European descent have better access to psychiatric help and relevant information simply because of their socio-economic class, and might have the disposable income to afford it. Less advantaged racial groups might be more conservative in regards to handling "eccentric" kids. Or simply, they just might have bigger things to worry about, like putting food on the table. AS, in the grand scheme of things, isn't a big deal. The wealthier someone is, the more "disorders" they seem to accumulate, and I think most people here would agree with me when I say AS is huuuuugely over-diagnosed.

I think PaulB had the right Idea to start with but got blinded by his own idea that all young aspies wish to be called as if they were in a differen't race to N'T and that they are all looking for a cure. I mean to me it sounds like he is stuck in alittle bit of his own faulty logic.

As for the Neaderthol thing I do not think that this is the reason for aspies there is too many other more crediable factors out there. You never know us aspies could be differen't from every one else. We could even be the next step up the ladder in evolution but the fact is we don't have all the evidence at our finger tips so we can't come to a solid conclusion yet. Some thing that would be funny is that aspies were the ones to invent fire and the wheel. Sorry I just thought that as a interesting idea just from a differen't angle.

Aspies quite possible are slightly brain damaged but we are not stupid.
I would not want to be like a NT any way.

One thinf PaulB mentioned was that if AS was genetic, then two people with it would create another perosn with AS when coupled. Things like that are only true in theory, two deaf poeple don't always create another deaf person. I believe we are gentically predispositioned (sp?) to be dx'd AS. My childhood was an unusual one, and their are other family members two generations ago who might have had AS. Then again, my grandfather had 3 daughters. It could be a male only trait in my family.

Due to Founder Genes research and studying especially a couple incredibly old ones which originated before we came out of Africa, it doesn't seem Neandertals and Homo sapiens interbred to any success or significance, if at all.

Mitochondrial research weakness aside, some of these old mutations, the oldest Founder Genes, do not support the interbreeding hypothesis.
