Sorry, you're right. Bad habit of jumping in too quickly. I apologise.

I understand it makes many people uncomfortable, but while we shouldn't be rude to people due to their lack of knowledge, I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with expecting people to take initative to learn basic things. It's in their best interest as well as the country's to have people understand how the world works. Ignorance can lead to some horrible things. I enjoy being around people more knowledgeable than myself - it can be intimidating, but I feel stimulated and enjoy learning.

QFT!! !!

Yes, I am. I like to know things. I find ignorance appalling. I was always driven to know things and learn things.

well, I can hear the lock being closed on THIS thread.

I'm a half-decade older (roughly) than the other one, so that makes me....what?...;)

I am in a way. However, I do a lot of explaining in my job (tech support), mainly telling people how they can help themselves, or what I'm going to do to their printer, etc. If I get a certain look, I know I can 'bump up' the technical level, if I get a lot of interruptions, I can tell they want me to fix the @#$ and get out of their office. But it does tend to soothe people when I do that.

No wonder everyone thinks we are dorks.

I am older than most on this board (36) so I have a different perspective. Being smart around other people is annoying, makes people feel uncomfortable, and will get you nowhere. Try working on a personality instead of reading books.

God forbid everyone think I'm a "dork" because I read books! The focus on being popular rather than smart is half of what's wrong with the world. You sound like my 15-year-old brother who is- surprise!- failing all his classes.

I sincerely hope you weren't being serious.

Not a knowledge snob. I might be surprised if someone didn't know something, I might even joke with someone else, but I generally assume that all knowledge needs to be caught in the wild, so I'm not at all snobby if they do not know something. This has invaluable ego boosting skills too. I never feel bad when I'm ignorant.

JWRed: Not to jump on the bandwagon here, but I do not see why I should at all be more inclined to cater to the arbitrary social instincts of humans than to amassing information about the world.
